Social Worker, LCSW

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Social Worker to work at The UHealth Medical Campus.

Core Job Summary

The Social Worker, LCSW works with clients in order to help them deal with issues involving mental and emotional health. This position provides emotional support, mental health evaluations and therapy, and case management services.

Advocates for and helps clients gain access to resources while confronting their personal issues.

Counsels and provides crisis intervention for patients, including assessment and treatment of behavioral problems.

Coaches patients on how to manage ongoing health conditions.

Provides therapy to help patients make positive behavior changes.

Assists patients and their families through individual, group, and education conferences to understand, accept, and follow treatment recommendations.

Refers patients and their families to specialized treatment programs in accordance with their needs, and monitors and evaluates their progress.

Collaborates with the other departments to integrate care where needed.

Maintains current and appropriate documentation in patient chart.

Acts as a mandated reporter in suspected child abuse cases.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions

Provide resources related to epilepsy, such as housing, Josh Provides, meal delivery, long-term care, Epilepsy Alliance FL, and guardianship.

Assist with various forms and letters, including FMLA, short/long-term disability forms, attending physician statements, life insurance forms, DMV forms, citizenship forms, annual guardianship forms, annual neurological review forms, school/work accommodations, school course withdrawal excuse letters, disability parking permits, school seizure action plans, authorizations for the use of medication forms (for schools), TOPS/STS forms for paratransit transportation, epilepsy/seizure evaluation forms for disability purposes, and clearance to drive letters.

Core Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Social Work

Certification in relevant specialty or field

Minimum 1 year of experience

Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.

Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
