Social Worker (Associate Level) - Emergency Department
Overview

Responsibilities

The Social Worker provides social work interventions for priority Medical Center patient and family needs.

Modalities include individual, couple, family and group counseling on a variety of mental health issues.

Team member will work alongside the providers as part of the multi-disciplinary team as well. Team member may supervise graduate students and will work independently with consultation as needed. Assess psychological status, develop and implement realistic treatment plans for all assigned cases. Demonstrate awareness of sensitivity to client’s cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Periodically review and update client’s treatment goals. Document, both clinically and for billing purposes, and in a timely basis, all patient encounters. Have on-going group(s) concurrent with individual, couples and family work. Provide crisis intervention as required, including referrals to local agencies, case management services and reporting of child abuse and neglect.

Work with high risk groups like the homeless, trauma survivors, prenatal patients and victims of domestic violence. Understand the harm reduction model when working with addictions. Oversee case assignment process for assigned interns. Provide weekly supervision to assigned interns. Be part of orientation to students to agency. Evaluate intern’s performance on on-going basis through supervision and formally in writing. Attend staff and clinical consultation meetings.

Participate in local community outreach activities and presentations. Meet monthly performance standards. Participate in department’s long range planning process. Interface with volunteer clinicians as needed. Assure responsible and timely billing practices. Seek and be available for clinical consultation as needed for challenging situations. Participate in continuing education activities to strengthen clinical skills. Consult with medical services providers as needed. Other responsibilities as assigned within Virginia Mason hospital and clinics.

Qualifications

Required:

· Master's of Social Work from an accredited college or university is required.
· Registration with the state of Washington as either a Licensed Social Work Associate (LSWAIC), Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Social Work Associate Advanced (LSWAA) or Social Work Advanced (LISW). May consider an Agency Affiliated Counselor with the expectation of active pursuit of their Social Work Licensure.
· Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
· Working knowledge of individual and family dynamics and the ability to perform psycho/social assessments
· Understanding of systems and how to work within systems
· Understanding of the impact and implications of disease and the course of disease
