Social Worker IV/Human Services Professional IV
Title: Social Worker IV Location: Honolulu, HI REQUIRED LICENSES Valid Hawaii State Driver’s License RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of early childhood development, family-centered care principles and practices; social work theory and practice and their application to services for young children with special needs and their families; federal, state, and local legislation pertaining to children with special needs; cultural diversity issues and concerns that impact on working with families; multidisciplinary teaming; community resources; strength-based planning and their application to early intervention services; systems of payments for services; and confidentiality and protection of the rights of children and families. Skills/Abilities Ability to apply family-centered care principles to facilitate the development and implementation of the IFSP; provide individual and family counseling; communicate and work proactively with families who care for children with special needs; build upon natural support systems that reflect a healthy balance between informal, community, and formal resources necessary to meet the broad-based needs of the entire family unit; provide support in ways that give families maximum control over needed resources and services; coordinate services with pertinent public and private agenies. Education 1. Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work with a concentration in child and family or mental health preferred. Hawaii Licensed Social Worker (LSW) with the State of Hawaii or Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW) membership desirable. 2. Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree which includes a minimum or twelve (12) semester credit hours in courses such as counseling, criminal justice, human services, psychology, social work, social welfare, or other behavioral sciences. 3. The education background must also demonstrate the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex written material; and solve complex problems logically and systematically. Experience 1. Two years of progressively responsible professional work experience which involves helping individuals and their families find satisfactory ways of identifying their problems, coping with their conditions, and functioning effectively within their environments. Depending on the employment setting and the kinds of clients served, job duties and responsibilities may vary, although typically work will include the identification and evaluation of the client’s problems and needs; the development of a service or treatment plan, sometimes in tandem with other professionals working in an interdisciplinary team; the initiation and implementation of the service plan, either directly or through the authorization of provider/vendor services; monitoring of services being provided; and evaluation/assessment of the client’s progress, with amendments to the service/treatment plans made as appropriate. Work and/or care coordination experience in the field of early intervention for infants and toddlers with special needs and their families is desirable.
