McMaster Children s Hospital's (MCH) Child and Youth Mental Health Program (CYMHP) is one of Canada's largest pediatric mental health service providers. CYMHP offers a wide range of services for children, youth, and families experiencing complex mental health concerns. Our program includes a 22-bed inpatient unit, a short-stay mental health assessment unit, a day treatment program and a wide range of outpatient services. The program is divided across 2 sites with locations at McMaster University Medical Centre (MUMC) and the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre (RJCHC).

The Child and Youth Mental Health Program Social Worker conducts mental health and/or risk assessments, participates in case management and delivers psychoeducational and evidence- based interventions as treatment to individuals, families and groups. Modalities may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and family therapy.
The Social Worker is responsible to ensure care is coordinated by participating in clinical and administrative meetings both internal in the program and hospital as well as externally with other hospitals, schools and community-based mental health providers. The Social Worker contributes to new and ongoing research and quality assurance projects. The Social Worker may provide education to the public and other professionals on issues relevant to the field of child and youth mental health. The Social Worker may also be expected to provide field education to social work students. The Social Worker will primarily work under CYMH Outpatient Services at Ron Joyce but may be expected to provide assistance to other services under the CYMH Program at both MUMC and RJCHC site on occasion.
