Job Summary 

The Software Architect helps define the strategic direction for software development at Beyond, Inc., enables software development teams to deliver business value in a timely, sustainable fashion, and collaborates with software development teams to translate business needs into technical solutions to power shopping experiences for bedbathandbeyond.com, overstock.com, and zulily.com (coming soon). 

Team Summary 

The Software Architecture Team collaborates with business stakeholders and the technology organization to ensure that Beyond, Inc. has the right technology in place, being used in the right ways, to execute the company’s mission, vision, strategy, and business objectives. You might go from leading high level design discussions to debugging a difficult technical problem, so be prepared to switch contexts rapidly at times. 

What you will do 

• Lead technical solutioning and design in collaboration with technology teams; writing detailed design documents and creating technical diagrams to establish and communicate a shared technical vision • Establish and document non-functional requirements for technical solutions • Identify and mitigate technical risks for software projects • Provide technical guidance and support to technology teams • Define and document enterprise-wide standards and recommended practices for technology teams • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommended practices in the industry • Evaluate and select third-party technology partners, including conducting proofs-of-concept for new technologies to evaluate how they fit into our ecosystem • Work with technology teams to explore improvements in techniques, patterns, and technologies used in application development, conducting training sessions as needed 

Skills required 

• 8+ years of practical experience in Software Engineering 

• 2+ years in a software leadership or staff engineer role or greater 

• 5+ years of JavaScript experience, Typescript preferred 

• 5+ years of node.js experience, next.js preferred • Experience building high performance, scalable web applications and APIs, preferably e-commerce • Excellent communication skills, including organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication 

• Deep understanding of non-functional requirements, including security, regulatory compliance, reliability, scalability, observability, etc., how to define them, measure them, and deliver them 

• Deep understanding of the entire software development lifecycle • Ability to work independently with little oversight • Ability to make tradeoffs for cost, scope/effort, risk, and quality 

 

Education

BS/BA/Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field.​

Base Pay Range: 

$136,000 - $170,000 per year

Physical Requirements:


This position requires you to sit, stand and perform general office functions. You may also be required to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Bending, stooping and reaching are also frequently required.
