Job Description

NBCUniversal Vendor Operations Software Asset Management (“SAM”) Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring effective management of software licenses, compliance, and vendor relationships within the organization. This position involves collaborating with various internal and external teams, and maintaining accurate records. This role is responsible for tracking software assets within NBCU technology footprint, ensuring compliance with software licensing agreements (consumption versus entitlement), managing software inventory, and implementing best practices for software asset management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in SAM activities, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders as well as knowledge of the Eracent Lifecycle Management tool to meet the objectives of this role.

Responsibilities:

Analyze the company’s software asset data and create reports that help drive compliance to usage rights, cost savings, cost avoidance and harvesting strategies.  Execute reconciliation by comparing license entitlements with discovered software installations to determine effective license position for in-scope vendors.Analyze software usage reports and recommend remediation plans for underutilized or overutilized non-compliant positions.Implement best practice SAM processes including development of shared sites, documentation, etc. Develop and implement industry best practices for the strategies around acquisition, deployment, and retirement of software assets by recommending and creating policies, processes, and procedures to support end-to-end software assets lifecycle managementMaintain an up-to-date inventory of all software assets (see immediately following bullet) used within the organization, and track licenses, versions, and installations for each software applicationProvide specialized knowledge of key software vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Adobe and VMWare and other high value/strategic software vendors within CompanyEnsure accurate and up-to-date documentation of software licenses and maintenance agreementsConduct regular self-audits to validate software deployments and reconcile license entitlementsDevelop & Maintain Software Management Product and Capability roadmapsProvide company with continuous improvement recommendations for either Eracent's or Company's software asset management processesProvide all necessary analysis, reporting and documentation, as needed, in support of Company's negotiations with software vendors Provide all necessary analysis, reporting and documentation, as needed, in support of Company's true-up and inventory validation for annual license or support renewals.Create and maintain policies, processes where needed to support end-to-end software assets lifecycleProvide remediation recommendations to correct non-compliant positionsPrepare for and address routine audits and questions from software vendors and internal stakeholders related to usage of softwareProvide ad hoc Compliance Reporting, as directed by Company, on the portfolio position of certain software within Company that, at a minimum, identifies its status, usage and compliance (for example over-deployment or under-deployment of the software)Analyze software usage patterns and recommend cost-effective license modelsProvide recommendations for software optimization and harvesting opportunities and contribute to Company's cost savings and cost avoidance objectives though these recommendationsDevelop dashboards that provide ongoing Compliance Reporting on core software vendors such as Microsoft, Adobe, and others as directed by the company.Provide, in accordance with Company's timeline, all necessary analysis, reporting and documentation in support of Company's response to software audits

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Proficient knowledge and use of the Eracent Lifecycle management toolBachelor’s degree in information technology, Business Administration, or a related field.8+ years of experience in software asset management.Expert knowledge of software licensing terms and conditions and the application of those terms to a software’s footprint and usage within a company’s physical and virtual IT environment.Excellent analytical skills with the ability to succinctly and impactfully share the findings with a varied stakeholder base including IT, Sourcing and Finance senior management.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Excellent customer service skillsRelevant certifications (e.g., CSAM, ITIL) are a plus.

Desired Characteristics:

Experience in large global environments spanning multiple time-zones Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under deadline.Ability to multi-task and to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Excellent report drafting, problem solving, and communications skills.
