Job Title: Software Cyber EngineerJob Description We are seeking a Software Engineer to join a key Cyber engineering team that is developing new security architectures for large Naval Submarine subsystems. This technology facilitates a common, open-architecture system-of-systems electronic design aboard submarines, ensuring interoperability during joint operations with integrated fighting forces. Essentially, this system acts as the central nervous system of a submarine, connecting all other subsystems. The engineers in this role will leverage their expertise to write secure code for communications between Kubernetes and a private cloud for edge communication. The primary objective is to write defense code to secure these communications, which are vital for the control of all submarine subsystems. Responsibilities + Write secure code for communications between Kubernetes and a private cloud. + Develop defensive code to secure edge communication components of a critical submarine system. + Work collaboratively with a small team of engineers, including industry experts, to secure submarine systems. + Utilize engineering expertise to enhance the security architecture of Naval Submarine subsystems. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field + 3-8 years of software development experience in C or C++ within a Linux/Unix environment + Experience with network packet captures + Proficiency in Linux systems + Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash + Understanding of basic networking switch/router/firewall/IDS concepts + Eligibility for Secret Clearance (Interim to start) Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with cloud technologies such as Kubernetes and containers + Familiarity with Secure Coding Practices (RMF, STIG) and/or developing Cyber Security Solutions + Knowledge in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) + Experience with large system development (10+ servers or higher) + Ability to research Cybersecurity capabilities, perform trade studies, and provide expertise to peers and leadership Work Environment This role offers a hybrid work environment, allowing you to work from home during development stages and in the lab during integration and test phases. The work schedule consists of four 10-hour days per week, providing flexibility. The current team consists of three people, with plans to expand by adding two more members this year.
