This is exactly what we, the Machine Learning Engineering Center Of Excellence in Expedia, do. Our mission is to partner with our Machine Learning Science counterparts to use AI/ML to collaboratively transform Expedia's data assets into intelligent and real-time insights to support various applications used by 1000+ market managers, analysts, our supply partners, and our travelers. Our work spans a variety of datasets and ML models and a diverse technology stack ranging from Spark, Airflow, Databricks, Kubernetes, Vector databases, AWS, and much more!
What you’ll do:
Write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions, and in a way that enables additional capabilities in the Expedia-wide Machine Learning Platform
Work across teams of Machine Learning engineers and Machine Learning Scientists to design and code large-scale batch and real-time ML platform capabilities
Prototype creative solutions quickly by developing minimum viable products and working with seniors and peers in crafting and implementing the technical vision for the team
Select valid approaches, appropriate in terms of level of effort, favoring iterative delivery that solves for the objective, not the ask (i.e., not just order-taking). Use advanced and sophisticated understanding of the business problem space to inform the design of the solution
Communicate and work with geographically distributed cross-functional teams
Participate in code reviews to assess overall code quality and flexibility
Drive for continuous improvement within an agile development team
Participate in user story creation in collaboration with the team
Support and troubleshoot data and/or system issues as needed
Expand your skills in developing high-quality, distributed, and scalable software
Team up with peers across the organization to build an understanding of cross-dependencies and shared problem-solving
Seek, learn, and use new technical skills in an engineering area
Share new skills and knowledge with the team to increase efficiency
Lead/clarify code evolution in code reviews and pull requests
Spot areas of inefficiency in code or systems operation and offer suggestions for improvements
Compile and generate reports on major operational or technical initiatives (like RCAs) to larger groups, whether via written or oral means
Who you are:
Degree in software engineering, computer science, or a similar field
2-3 years of industry experience in comparable roles
Comfortable programming in Python, Java, Go
Good understanding of machine learning pipelines and machine learning practices
Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts, data structure, algorithms, and system-level programming (including multi-threaded programming)
Strong communication skills in written and verbal form
Experience testing, automating, and instrumenting your code
A degree in computer science or related technical field or equivalent related professional experience
Prior experience developing and supporting Web Services is a plus
Working knowledge of AWS technologies, tools like Airflow
The total cash range for this position in Austin is $112,000.00 to $156,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
