Software Development Manager, Amazon
Description Amazon is seeking an experienced Senior Development Manager to lead Amazon’s Consumer Electronics Technology (CE-Tech) AI Technology’s engineering team. This team is the AI arm of Amazon’s BEATS (Business, Electronics, Auto, and Technology Solutions) division with a remit that spans diverse Hardlines categories in the US, a worldwide remit in high value consumer shopping experiences on Amazon (e.g. consumer shopping cart basket building), and vendor and employee tooling. On the heels of this team’s success in 2024, the is an opportunity for a Senior Development Manager to join our leadership team and as we reboot our charter and rebuild the team for transformation and impact in 2025 and beyond. This role will hire, develop and lead a team of talented ML/software engineers, and work closely with a dedicated product manager, a team of Applied Scientists, partner teams and senior leadership in our division. The best candidate will have an established track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams, launching customer or partner-facing experiences, and a strong foundation in machine learning systems and applications. Key Responsibilities: - Team Leadership: Recruit, lead and grow a team of ML/software engineers. Provide technical mentorship and career development while fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment - Technical Leadership: work closely with your engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach that scales for impact. Establish and optimize development processes that enable rapid experimentation while maintaining high quality standards. Build mechanisms to measure and improve the impact of what we launch. - Technical Strategy: own strategic planning and project management for long-term engineering projects to ensure we create value for our customers, partners and employees. Collaborate with product, science, and partner teams to define and execute on the team's technical vision - Operational Excellence: Lead the team in delivering new features with high impact while making decisions that optimize for low operational overhead in the long term - Thought Leadership. Champion an AI-aware mindset throughout the CE Tech organization, in everything from daily tasks to experimentation, testing, and monitoring. Influence cross-team technical decisions and contribute to broader organizational strategy in CE Tech. Basic Qualifications - 3+ years of engineering team management experience - 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience - 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience - Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations - Experience partnering with product or program management teams Preferred Qualifications - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy - Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
