We are seeking an exceptional leader to join our Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) Developer Tools team in a pivotal Software Development Manager role. In this position, you will lead a distinguished team of engineers who exemplify the highest standards of technical expertise, agile methodology, data-driven decision-making, and collaborative spirit. Your mission will be transformative: advancing and expanding the fundamental AI and Large Language Model (LLM) capabilities that serve as the backbone of next-generation Alexa experiences.
At the heart of this role lies a mission-critical responsibility: managing the sophisticated base LLM prompt system that governs Alexa’s behavioral patterns and responses. You will be tasked with architecting and implementing a comprehensive prompt management ecosystem that not only maintains exceptional quality standards but also possesses the flexibility and robustness to scale alongside Alexa’s ambitious vision. This includes pioneering work in emerging multi-model and multi-modal experiences, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in AI-driven interactions.
Your influence will extend across the organization through deep collaboration with cross-functional teams. Working in concert with Product Managers, Applied Scientists, Language Engineers, and Software Engineers, you will orchestrate the design, development, testing, and deployment of innovative products and features. These initiatives will fundamentally enhance the development lifecycle of Alexa experiences, streamlining and improving the way developers interact with our platform. As the owner of core developer services, you will be responsible for maintaining and evolving the essential infrastructure that enables the creation of sophisticated LLM-centric applications.

Key job responsibilities
End-to-end development lifecycle of products under ownership
Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments
Management of planning and day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-in-class engineering team
Work closely with engineers to architect and develop technical designs and approaches that will stand the test of time
Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
