Software Development Manager - on-Vehicle Programming

Step into a pivotal role with GM as a Software Development Manager  within our Over-the-Air (OTA) software platform team, embodying GM’s vision towards an all-electric future. We are aligned with GM’s mission to create a "better and safer future for all."
Your expertise will be instrumental in driving us towards our vision of zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion. Your proficiency in embedded software development and firmware programming will help transform GM’s capability to deliver software to our customer’s vehicles.

Define and lead software strategy for new technology, highly complex features, or significant OTA enhancements for current and new vehicle programs.

Enable OTA teams to design and develop OTA vehicle software for current and future vehicle architectures in an agile environment, providing technical leadership to execution teams for development of resilient, high-performance solutions at scale.

Oversee all aspects of development of embedded (C/C++) software for vehicle OTA functions and enhancements in QNX and Linux environments.

Facilitate cross functional collaboration with design, product, program, safety, systems and other

Responsibilities:

Work at all levels of software development, architecture, and implementation of complex software products.

Partner with Product/Program Managers, System Engineers and Validation to drive the product vision and roadmap for the software products of the OTA vehicle platform team

Drive technical projects and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment.

Oversee the SDLC within your team, including hands-on code reviews

Provide career development opportunities and maintain an ongoing constructive feedback loop. 

Inspire innovation and technical growth through hands-on mentoring and encouragement. 

Participate in the planning and scope for the team projects. 

Support Product Owners and PMs to deliver high quality software on time. 

Commit and deliver high quality software deliverables on time for the different vehicle programs. 

Promote innovation across the company. 

Additional Job Description

Requirements:

BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering; or equivalent.

8+ years of experience as a software developer

Experience developing software in embedded, or other resource constrained environments

Proven track record of delivering/launching software in partnership with cross-functional engineering teams and high degree of proficiency in prototyping, iterative development, understanding of Agile principles.

The ability to take raw product requirements and develop software architectures and designs to bring them to life.

Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs.

Results driven individual with high levels of initiative.

What will give you a competitive edge

Good understanding of in-vehicle electrical architectures and embedded systems
(ECUs, microcontrollers, embedded systems, real-time systems, gateways, switches, routers etc.)

Automotive Communication protocols (ISO or SAE) / Cloud protocols / IoT protocols..

Automotive diagnostics experience.

Experience managing a global team that is geographically dispersed
