Job Description Summary:

As a key member of Risk Platform engineering team, you will design, test, deploy and maintain software solutions.

• Risk Platform Services team is responsible for providing the infrastructure for fraud detection and decisioning, risk management and compute services across PayPal - globally. As a Software engineer, you would be responsible for building and scaling the next generation data engine and making it cloud ready.
• We research, ideate, design, and develop the platform that gets called across every interaction between PayPal’s customers and partners. Our solutions need to scale across hundreds of millions of such interactions per day, working with petabyte plus data, integrating with various other APIs in real time and yet providing high availability and resiliency to the business. To achieve this, we are always looking at leveraging the best technology and science and tying those back to business needs.
• You will be responsible for working with a team of engineers in design, development, test, and deployment of a range of products in Risk Data platform. A successful candidate will have an established background in being a go-getter with a strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. Job Description:

In PayPal, we develop massively scalable, distributed software systems that require high availability to our business. You build strong competencies in data structures and algorithms, along with a technical fascination for how everything ties together. You need to have a solid foundational knowledge of computer engineering and intellectual curiosity to understand the business. As a Software Engineer, you will participate in all phases of our software development lifecycle from design, architecture and planning to development, testing, deployment, monitoring and beyond. You will be responsible in delivering an industry leading product. The prospective candidate will be an individual contributor working with various cross functional groups (business, product, analytics, engineering) and will require admirable collaboration skills. Business acumen, hands-on technology skills, positive work ethic and a collaborative mindset are key to the success of this role.

Demonstrate end to end ownership of features, projects, modules, and services that you and your team deliver.Demonstrate a customer centric mindset as part of day-day work.Participate in design and development efforts of existing and new frameworks built in Risk Data Platform and Infrastructure.Act as a strong advocate for clean and scalable coding principles.Participate in formal and informal code reviews to ensure code quality.Be a champion of high-performance, secure, and reliable software services.Collaborate with core platform, infrastructure, business & product teams to implement features for Risk Platform.Work with your Agile team to achieve shared understanding around the new products and features under consideration.Continuously learn by staying on top of the latest technology trends and share your knowledge and experience with your peers, adjacent teams, and across the organization.Actively contribute to our automated test suite and build/deploy processed to enable speedy and reliable continuous integration.Advocate for ways to remediate technical debt on an ongoing basis.Mentor junior engineers as they develop their technical skills.

Technical Hands-on Skills

Strong programming skills and expertise in Java, Spring, Messaging Infrastructures like Kafka and server-side technologies.Strong applied experience. You’ve built, broken, and rebuilt software applications. We’re looking for creative thinkers who also know how to create real-world products.Strong foundational knowledge in Object-Oriented Design Principles, Data Structures, Algorithms, SQL/NoSQL, Concurrency, Operating Systems, and Software EngineeringExperience with NOSQL Databases, Distributed systems, Cloud-based technologies, Big Data Frameworks.Experience on Big Data Technologies such as Apache Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, Hive, etc. Applied Experience with development of RESTful APIs, Web Services, SOA.Expertise in understanding high level design and translating it into detailed design artifacts.Ability to drive projects independently and demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly.Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills to effectively connect with both business and technical teamsShould be a strong advocate of code craftsmanship, good coding standards and use of tools that will improve the quality of the delivered code.Authority in writing Unit Test cases, Functional test cases and meeting Non-Functional requirements like application security, availability and performance.

Education & Work qualifications

BSCS or equivalent + 6 years of experience / MSCS + 4 years of experience in software development.

Nice to Have

Experience with building end to end data pipelines, data streaming and ingestion, Machine Learning, data storage and processing using Airflow, Cloud Pub/Sub, Dataproc, BigQuery etc. along with some front end technologies is a big plusExposure and participation in tech events, hackathons, contributions to open source, authoring of blogs and active participation in online tech forums is a plus.

Understanding of mathematical concepts, statistical analysis is a plus

$72700 to $176000
