We are seeking a Database Data Operations Engineer (DBE) to ensure the performance, reliability, and scalability of databases in a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment. This role focuses on solving straightforward database problems, building knowledge of company processes, and contributing to team projects. The DBE will work independently on daily tasks while receiving moderate guidance for new projects and assignments. 

 

The ideal candidate will have foundational technical expertise, actively develop their skills, and apply defined practices and standards to solve standard database operations challenges. 

  

Key Responsibilities 

Software Development: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code for database systems and tools following defined standards and practices.  Problem Solving: Solve a range of straightforward database-related issues using defined procedures and precedents.  Testing: Build and automate basic test cases to ensure database systems are reliable and functional.  Debugging and Troubleshooting: Analyze issues using defined guidelines and provide basic resolutions to database-related problems.  Service Health: Monitor database performance and health using pre-defined tools and guidelines.  Collaboration: Contribute to team projects and goals, ensuring deliverables support broader objectives.  Documentation: Create straightforward documentation for database structures, configurations, and processes to support team knowledge sharing. 

  

Qualifications 

Database Expertise: 

Foundational experience with PostgreSQL and familiarity with database technologies like CloudSQL or AlloyDB.  Basic understanding of database design, indexing, and optimization.

Programming and Scripting:  Proficiency in SQL and basic scripting languages such as Python or shell scripting. 

Cloud and Tools:  Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) database services.  Familiarity with basic database tools like Liquibase or pg_bouncer. 

Database Operations:  Experience in writing and managing simple DDL and DML scripts.  Familiarity with database telemetry tools and backup processes.

Preferred Skills and Experience 

Basic knowledge of data masking and ERD extraction.  Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Terraform.  Awareness of database security policies and basic compliance practices.  Exposure to ETL processes and basic database integration techniques. 

Education and Experience 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.  1-3 years of professional experience in database operations or engineering, preferably in a cloud environment.

The pay range for this position is $86,100 to $123,800, however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a short-term incentive and a long-term incentive as part of total compensation.
