The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Entry-Level Software Engineer to join the Claims Modernization journey. This role works with a team to develop internet and intranet applications as needed. You may also be responsible for crafting user guides and other documentation for clients. In order to succeed as an entry-level Java developer, you will need to be open to challenging yourself and trying new solutions when faced with problems.

Within defined guidelines and framework, provides support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based out of San Antonio, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

Under direct supervision, design, develop, code, and test technical solutions.Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis.Verify and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques.Improve application stability and scalability.Build and maintain technical documentation.Build and improve automated tests and code quality.Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).Up to 2 years of software development experience.Foundational and conceptual knowledge of function/discipline and proven application of knowledge, skills, and abilities towards work products.Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and PythonAbility to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.Basic Understanding of cloud technologies and tools.

What sets you apart:

Experience developing APIs in JAVAUI development skills like React UI or TypescriptExperience or formal training developing database applications using a relational database (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar).Experience or formal training developing code using HTML and CSSExperience or formal training developing systems development specifications, following SDLC and Safe Agile methodology.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $63,590.00 - $121,530.00

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the hourly range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual hourly rate for this role may vary by location.
