Software Engineer II, Full Stack (Checkout Experience)

One of Affirm’s stated growth pillars is to Win at Checkout since it directly impacts our volume and is the final step before our customers receive a loan from Affirm to make their purchase. The Checkout Experience engineering team supports this pillar by both optimizing the existing product experience as well as building new product capabilities. Our team builds with craft, quality, and passion to help Affirm expand into new markets, show up on more merchant sites, and increase how much and how often people pay with Affirm.

We are a full stack team building consumer-facing user experiences. We seek not only to craft every pixel with care so as to delight our users, but also to respond within seconds to server and client availability issues affecting our customers. We are as obsessed about animation smoothness, kilobytes shipped to the client, and WCAG as we are about comprehensible client contracts, asynchronous data fetching, and downtime minimization.

We are looking for an engineer who is as passionate about the mission of Affirm as we are. This person tolerates ambiguity, is a self-starter and can remove blockers by collaborating independently with teammates to get to a solution. This person enjoys some mob programming, appreciates the need to build consensus through technical writing, and both welcomes and seeks out recurring one-on-one’s within and outside of their team to extend their collaborative reach. This person seeks to understand the modern web and how to build for it.

What You'll Do With the support of your team’s tech lead and manager, you will break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery of your work. You will support your peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade-offs. You will support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on-call efforts. You will contribute to a sense of community on your team by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process. What We Look For You have a total of 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer. You have experience shipping web apps using declarative UI frameworks like React or Vue. You have experience designing, developing and launching APIs at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin. You have mastered taking a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple software components, and executing on it by writing clear, easily understood, well tested and extensible code. You are comfortable navigating a large code base, debugging others' code, and providing feedback to other engineers through code reviews. Your experience demonstrates that you take ownership of your growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, your manager, and your stakeholders. You have strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team. This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
