We want you to join our team! **Overall Purpose** The **Software Engineer III** works collaboratively with and assists team members in support of Duquesne Light Company’s (DLC) efforts to develop solutions to business and technical problems. The Software Engineer III will support the overall operation of Duquesne Light’s Supervisory Control and DATA Acquisition System (SCADA). Support will include the day-to-day needs of control room operating staff and other end users, including interacting with the SCADA field engineering groups to resolve issues, and participate in on-call rotation as required to support the operations department and maintain high SCADA and supporting systems availability. **Location:** Hybrid, Woods Run Complex in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania **Job Responsibilities** : + Perform daily, weekly and other periodic procedural tasks to verify the state of the SCADA system, perform programming and database projects associated with the real-time operation of the Duquesne Light’s SCADA, and actively participate with the IT-SCADA engineering staff on various engineering assignments relating to the operation and support of the SCADA System. + Provide Support of the SCADA system, specifically data acquisition issues: Frontend Communication processor issues, communication technologies using analog, digital , DNP3, frame relay or MPLS, protocols used by the SCADA system to collect data from field Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), support for Inter- Control Center Protocol (ICCP), as well as for the Outage Management System (OMS). + Actively maintain the asset database and Ports and Services data and support and maintain compliance with CIP Standards. + Responsible for participation on one or more project teams, application development, integration, and modification activities, as well as related maintenance and support. + Participate in project planning sessions with team members to analyze Business IT requirements. + Work with project team to define and design project scope. + Configure and integrate applications per written specifications using disciplined software development processes. + Translate business and technical requirements into application modules. + Test and implement application modules, ensuring application meets needs of client and business. + Aid in the preparation and presentation of status updates for projects. + Maintain awareness of new developments in Data Acquisition and SCADA/EMS technology as applied to power system control and operation. + Participate in the verification and testing of the Alternate Operations Control Center. + Provide ongoing maintenance of client/server applications or tools. + Handle Tier II support issues (tickets) within area of expertise. + Engage in limited amounts of client interaction. + Participate in the 24/7 SCADA On-Call Rotation. **Education/Experience** : + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science, or a related technical field required. + In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a commensurate combination of educations and experience will be considered. + Three (3+) or more years of related experience required. **Skills and Experience Utilized in this Role Include:** + Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs. **Scope:** Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs, and reporting. Typically, accountable for managing one’s own time and workflow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work activities are typically moderate to complex in nature, requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base but has a solid foundation to act independently the majority of the time. Still draws on experts and managers when needed but less frequently. **Decision Impact:** Problems and issues faced are vague. Draws on experience on a regular basis. Accountable for direct level of reasoning and decision making. **Storm Roles** All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset.
