Software Engineer Sr. Manager, MarTech Messaging Platforms (Remote)

Position Purpose:

As a Software Engineer Sr. Manager, you will be given a chance to contribute to the products we create, help grow the next generation of engineering talent, and help shape the technology strategy of the enterprise.
In addition, you will be given the chance to work with our most strategic vendors to ensure that 3rd party tools and applications are readily available to all product teams that are interested in using them. The Sr. Manager must exhibit the ability to lead managers and their teams and drive change management and process improvement.

The Sr. Manager, Martech Messaging Platforms is a key leadership role, driving our strategy & roadmap forward on delivering those customer experiences at the right place and right time. You will oversee a team of talented managers and engineers, while building strong partnerships and accountability across stakeholders. You will champion innovation, drive scalability, and ensure a robust and reliable Tech stack that delivers exceptional performance and user experience.  


Responsibilities:   

Leads the Tech strategy and execution for Martech Messaging Platforms. This includes email, paid media integrations, SMS, and intersection with our CDP and content orchestration capabilities Brings a strong understanding of the vendor landscape in this space, and leading both the internal and external Tech teams required to build capabilities Partners closely with Content teams and Data teams to drive personalization solutions within messaging channels Collaborates through a matrix of Business, Product, and Tech teams. Builds strong partnerships that establish trust and accountability Stays abreast of both Tech and Business industry trends through 3rd party publications, industry events/conferences, leveraging perspective to drive future vision Regularly presents roadmaps and strategy in leadership forums, and brings strong communication and Technology perspective to the table Develop and implement streamlined processes for tracking, analyzing, and resolving technical issues, ensuring efficient resolution and proactive problem-solving.  Champion and lead growth initiatives, fostering a culture of experimentation and innovation.  Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of highly skilled engineers, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.  


Key Responsibilities:

20% Strategy & Planning:

Works and negotiates with partners on the staffing of skilled engineering positions on product teamsContributes to and makes recommendations for strategic plans in support of key objectives in a timely and fiscally responsible mannerSupports and nurtures strategic vendor relationships; recommends ways to influence vendors that aligned to domain, portfolio, and enterprise strategic objectivesEvaluates new technologies for adoption across the enterpriseHelps to identify and demonstrate emerging technologies for adoption by product teams

20% Delivery & Execution:

Collaborates and pairs with product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutionsDocuments, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are metWrites custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test casesWorks with vendors and partners for the successful implementation of critical tooling and platformsCreates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactivelyContributes to enterprise-wide tools to drive destructive testing, automation, and engineering empowermentParticipates in and leads review board sessions to drive consistency across the enterpriseMakes suggestions that help drive operational excellence to create internal customer satisfaction and meet operational metricsFills in on product teams for engineers who are out of the office

15% Support & Enablement:

Fields questions from engineers, product teams, or support teamsMonitors tools and participates in conversations to encourage collaboration across product teamsLearns, through reading, tutorials, and videos, new technologies and best practices being used within other technology organizationsProvides application support for software running in productionActs as a technical escalation point for the engineers on the team

45% People:

Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to Software EngineersAttracts, retains, and develops top talent to build a world class Software Engineering TeamConducts annual and mid-year reviews by reviewing individual development plans and team feedbackFosters collaboration with team members to drive consistency across product teams, and finds opportunities to expose engineers to career interestsActs as a proponent of modern software development practicesGuides team members in strategy, alignment, analysis, and execution tasks within and across product teamsParticipates in and contributes to learning activities around modern software design and development core practices (communities of practice)Builds relationships with technology leaders at other companies to learn best practices and elegant solutions to common problems


Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

Typically reports to the Technology Director, Sr. Director or Vice President.


Travel Requirements:

Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.


Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.


Working Conditions:

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.


Minimum Qualifications:

Must be eighteen years of age or older.Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.Mastery of an object oriented programming language (preferably Java)Must be legally permitted to work in the United States


Preferred Qualifications:

10+ years of experience in Software Engineering Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or related field. Advanced degree preferred Retail/similar background preferred. Technical leader who is also fluent in Marketing business concepts & strategies Experience being a technical leader for owned media and paid media platforms; deep understanding of the architecture, engineering, and industry landscape Strong understanding of the cloud data landscape, Marketing CDP platforms, and flow of data/segmentation to drive customer personalization Strong understanding of Content Management Systems and integration points with messaging capabilities Track record of leading Managers of Engineering teams and developing/building high performing organizations Highly collaborative individual who thrives working across a matrix of Product and Business stakeholders Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills History of building a culture of trust, accountability, and strong reputation for delivery
