Software Engineer - Submarine and Autonomous Systems

As a Software Engineer for Submarine and Autonomous Systems you will... Perform software engineering for both submarine systems and unmanned platforms. This is to include requirements development, object-oriented design, agile software development, laboratory system integration and testing, and field testing. Install and configure critical shipboard systems. This may include unique opportunities to ride US Navy ships in support of system sea trials and crew training. Propose and develop innovative ways to apply ground breaking technologies to extend the capabilities and performance of existing naval systems. Document software development activities and test results. Prepare for and conduct periodic design reviews, as well as technical reports and other briefing materials for presentations to all levels of staff and government agencies. Qualifications You meet our minimum requirements for the job if you... Possess a B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Have 3+ years of software development expertise working with Java, C++, and/or C#. Are highly skilled in a breadth of software development knowledge. Have excellent interpersonal skills and outstanding written and oral communication skills. Are able to work within the government infrastructure and address leadership roles in a diverse environment of contractors, government, and user staff. Are willing and able to travel up to 20% of the time. Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Have an M.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Have 5+ years of experience working with software development and in distributed systems development. Have familiarity with systems programming in Linux environments with embedded programming principles and real-time software development expertise. Have experience in Linux system administration and network architecture. Have experience leading software development projects, including planning, execution, and delivering outcomes within scope. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
