About the Role – Investigations Team
We are seeking a Software Engineering Lead for one of our development teams in our Cardiff office. This is a hybrid role, based in our Cardiff office in the UK.
The Investigations team looks after a collection of products, including one of our flagships – TraceIQ, which is widely used in the Investigation and Data Management business, – enabling us to fight fraud, reduce risk and create a fairer and more inclusive society.
The team use a PHP tech stack on a API first based architecture to develop capabilities, which are delivered into solutions.
This role will support the team by enabling delivery of changes and directly managing around 3 to 6 talented Engineers.
About the Team
Our development teams are cross-functional and agile, with a high degree of autonomy. They align their work (and backlog) to Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) set for the whole group; they set their own OKRs on a quarterly basis.
A team typically consists of Software Engineers, Quality Test Engineers, a Product Owner and a Project Manager – and of course, a Software Engineering Lead! Each team member has their own diverse skillset and are usually at different points in their career – ensuring that there is always room to learn and grow.
All teams are supported by a network of peers along with other disciplines, such as Systems Architects and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs).
Responsibilities
Being accountable for delivery of changes, enabling team members to set out what is required and then build it
Collaborating closely with the Product Owner and Project Manager to align the work of the team to solving problems for customers and business priorities, and then refining it into deliverable iterations
Supporting the growth of your team members, allowing them to do their best work and achieve their career goals
Continually striving towards engineering excellence – getting hand’s on with code where needed and maintaining excellent service for our customers
Contributing to wider group initiatives, from championing information security to continuing to support diversity and inclusion within our teams
Requirements
Have hand’s-on technical experience building and delivering software as part of a development team (either as a Software Engineer or Quality Test Engineer) - Languages currently used by the team are PHP, Laravel, MySQL, AWS/Guide refinement of technical work into deliverable pieces and validate the team’s approach to solving problems (collaborating on achieving this is OK, and expected)

Mentor others and help them reach their full potential
Be comfortable making mistakes and learning from them
