Apply now. **A Brief Summary of This Position:** Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for an internship position in the Agriculture Division’s Software Engineering Department. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will be responsible for assisting with projects involving our data center operations and enterprise systems application support. Valmont’s internship program mission is to provide a hands-on learning experience through project work, leadership development, job shadowing and interaction with senior leadership. **Essential Functions:** + This position reports to the Director, Software Engineering and has no direct reports or indirect reports + This role requires no travel + Flexible schedule however must be able to work in the office 3 days per week (T, W and T) + Web Application Development: + Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining web applications using front-end and back-end technologies. + Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in languages such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js. + Back-End Development: + Support server-side development using languages like Node.js, Python, Java, or PHP. + Work with databases (SQL, NoSQL) to manage and retrieve data efficiently. + Collaboration: + Partner with product managers, UI/UX designers, and software engineers to understand requirements and deliver high-quality features. + Participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives. + Testing and Debugging: + Identify and resolve bugs to improve application performance and security. + Perform unit, integration, and end-to-end testing to ensure code reliability. + API Development and Integration: + Develop and consume RESTful or GraphQL APIs to connect front-end interfaces with back-end services. + Documentation: + Create and maintain technical documentation for code, APIs, and workflows. **Required** **Q** **ualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):** + Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. + Strong knowledge of front-end technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+). + Basic understanding of back-end development with Node.js, Python, Java, or similar. + Familiarity with version control systems, especially Git. + Understanding of responsive web design and cross-browser compatibility. + Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. + Ability to debug and solve technical issues effectively. + Good written and verbal communication skills. + Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members. **Highly Qualified Candidates** **Will Also Possess These Qualifications:** + Cumulative Grade Point average (GPA) of 3.0 or greater + Knowledge of server-side frameworks such as Express (Node.js), Django, Flask, or Spring Boot. + Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and deployment pipelines (CI/CD). + Understanding of web security principles (OWASP Top 10) and data protection best practices. + Exposure to containerization tools like Docker or Kubernetes. + Experience with DevOps practices or monitoring tools. + Personal projects, GitHub repositories, or contributions to open-source projects demonstrating practical experience. **Benefits:** + Great opportunity to gain career related course work experience from an industry leader + Paid Internship – Valmont values you + Potential development into a regular full-time position + Flexible full-time day shift hours during the summer + A thriving culture in a growing business + Interactive group activities with intern peers **Working Environment and Physical Efforts:** Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests.
