Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is the world leader in serving science, with annual revenue exceeding $40 billion. Our Mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. Whether our customers are accelerating life sciences research, solving sophisticated analytical challenges, improving patient diagnostics and therapies or growing efficiency in their laboratories, we are here to support them. Our distributed team of more than 100,000 colleagues delivers an outstanding combination of innovative technologies.

One of these is Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). TEM is a high-resolution imaging method where a beam of electrons passes through a thin sample to create an image. The electron beam's interaction with the sample is influenced by its thickness, density, composition, and sometimes crystallinity. The transmitted electrons generate contrast in the image, allowing TEM to capture sub-nanometer, and in some cases, atomic-level resolution images.

One component of a microscope is the Stage. The Stage enables operators to insert the sample that will be studied into the microscope, and to move the sample in the microscope to get the area of interest in view.

Internship position

Join our innovative team as a software development intern, where you'll develop a brand-new software tool to support and optimize factory operations related to the Stage, optimizing production and troubleshooting processes.

Working with the latest .NET/C# version and the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) UI framework, you’ll be creating a powerful new tool that replaces a legacy one built in C++ and MATLAB scripts.

This new tool will play a crucial role in improving the performance and diagnostics of the Stage. It will enhance operations by monitoring axis and sensor states, providing critical mechatronic data, and supporting test and diagnostic actions for the Stage. You'll also develop features that streamline or automate step-by-step workflows, such as sample holder retraction sequences, significantly boosting factory efficiency and service capabilities.

As an intern you will have the opportunity to follow the complete cycle in development of sophisticated systems. You will actively participate in Agile Scrum rituals such as sprint planning, daily stand-up meetings, sprint reviews, etc.

Qualifications:

We encourage candidates with the following qualifications to apply:

·        Currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, System Engineering, or equivalent.

·        Knowledge or willingness to learn .NET/C# and WPF.

·        Eagerness to learn, take initiative, have a pro-active attitude.

·        Interest in or willingness to learn software engineering practices and software development tools (Git, Jenkins, etc.).

·        Good level of spoken and written English.

We offer:

Our team is working in a modern work environment.

If you're excited about solving real-world challenges with cutting-edge technology, this is the perfect opportunity to build valuable software development experience in a dynamic and high-impact environment!
