Job Description

As a Solid-State Scientist III at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., you will use your expertise in solid-state characterization and analytical method validation to advance drug substance development. Collaborate with premier teams and ensure our methodologies meet regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform solid-state characterization of drug substances and products using sophisticated analytical techniques, including X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), FTIR, particle size analysis, and polarized light microscopy.Expertise in investigating critical solid-state properties such as polymorphism, crystallinity, amorphous content, and particle morphology to support pharmaceutical development.Develop and validate analytical methods in compliance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., ICH) and analyzing experimental data to prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and regulatory submissions.Effective collaboration with formulation development, process development, and quality teams is important for supporting drug development programs.Stay with advancements in solid-state characterization technologies and apply innovative ways to improve experimental workflows.

Qualifications:

PhD or equivalent experience in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field with a focus on solid-state chemistry and/or analytical methods.Hands-on experience with solid-state analytical techniques, including XRPD, DSC, TGA, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, and microscopy (academic or industrial).Basic understanding of polymorphism, amorphous systems, crystallinity, and their implications in drug development.Experience in method development, validation, and troubleshooting for analytical techniques.Strong data analysis and interpretation skills, proficient in software tools such as HIgh Score Plus, Trios, or related programs.Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and time-management skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate within cross-functional teams.

Preferred candidates will have prior experience in pharmaceutical solid-state analysis gained through internships, academic research, or industry roles. Familiarity with ICH guidelines and regulatory requirements for method validation and solid-state characterization. Additionally, knowledge of formulation concepts and drug product development processes will be valuable for participating in cross-functional drug development initiatives.
