Sonographer Clinical Practitioner - 30 Hrs

Provides support to the radiologist by reviewing low risk exams for technical adequacy and adhering to exam protocols. Discusses the preliminary impression of each case with the sonographer before allowing the patient to leave and complete the visit. Discusses the exam and reviews the images with the attending radiologist prior to dictating the exam.

Three 10 hour shifts

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

Reviews exams and provides support for technically difficult exams such as Nuchal Translucency or Doppler exams. Determines if exam protocol is fulfilled. (essential)

May utilize GE Logicworks workstation to manipulate image volumes. (essential)

Dictates preliminary report using standard dictation templates after formal review with staff radiologist. (essential)

Contacts referring physicians and communicates abnormal results. (essential)

Participates in clinical quality assurance program. (essential)

Uses policies, practices and professional standards to guide work. (essential)

Works with clinical and technical leadership to facilitate and document medical necessity. (essential)

May perform all duties and responsibilities of a staff sonographer including providing sonographic guidance for procedures. (essential)

Participates in teaching students, junior sonographers, residents and fellows. (essential)

Performs high level disinfection of Ultrasound intracavitary transducers in systems such as the Trophon EPR system. Appropriate HLD of Ultrasound transducers is necessary for patient protection and infection control. Employees are trained initially and then an annual refresher is completed. (essential)

Required Qualifications:

Associate's degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required.
5-8 years related work experience required in Experience in general abdominal, gynecology, obstetrics, small parts and vascular exams is appropriate..
New hires will have 30 days to provide BLS certification. Certification has to be with the American Heart Association (AHA).
Candidate must be registered in the Abdomen OR OB/Gyn specialty and within six months candidate must acquire the second ARDMS registry.
Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

Early Risk Assessment experience with Nuchal Translucency certification.
Additional ARDMS registry certification preferred.
Registered Vascular Technologist preferred.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - over.

Social/Environmental Requirements:

Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.

Work is varied every day and the employee needs to be adaptable to respond to these changes and use independent judgment and manage priorities.

Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions

Daily:  Protective equipment required(Respirator,earplugs,mask,gloves,eyewear etc).

Several times a week:  Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or airborne pathogens, Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or bloodborne pathogens.

Several times a month:  Exposure to dust,gas,fumes,steam,chemicals.

Health Care Status:  HCW1: Regular, day-to-day contact; both face-to-face and hands-on (having close contact within three feet for at least five minutes). Examples: physicians, clinical nurses, phlebotomist, medical assistants, PFT tech, and x-ray tech.- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department

Sensory Requirements:

Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual clarity

Physical Requirements:

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.
This job requires constant Power Grasping using both hands, Fine Manipulation using both hands, Keyboard use, Reaching-below shoulder height,frequent sitting, walking, bending neck, bending waist, twisting neck, Pushing/Pulling using both hands.There may be occasional standing, twisting waist, Reaching-above shoulder height, Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 100 pounds without assistance, Pushing items weighing up to 10 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 25 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 50 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to or more than 100 lbs, Push a wheelchair or wheeled bed containing a patient weighing up to 250 pounds, with assistance.Rarely there may be Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 250 pounds with assistance.
