JOB KNOWLEDGE
College degree or equivalent work experience. 15 or more years of merchandise and strategic sourcing experience desired. Ability to provide direction to staff and organize workflow. Experience with international companies required.
Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills required in English and Hindi. Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization. Requires strong analytical and negotiation skills. Ability to set budgets and prepare financial forecasts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Remain in constant contact with TJX management to obtain information on strategies and development projects in the market, sales data on merchandise and market conditions that impact sourcing decisions. Communicate the overall sourcing strategy to designated sourcing unit. Plan and control activities of the team to execute these strategies. Monitor workload. Conduct performance reviews of staff through ongoing feedback and documentation.
Evaluate the market to recommend the best source for a particular product or category of products. Investigate market opportunities. Understand market conditions, recognize existing or potential obstacles, or shift in macro conditions. Participate in new vendor or manufacturing site visits as required.
Identify and drive implementation of continuous improvement initiatives with key supplies in support of business goals – innovative cost savings, lead-time reduction, increased inventory turns, improved processes.
Research and travel to meet with factories and vendors in the market to build relationships, review production capabilities and identify potential opportunities. Ensure factories are capable of producing brand merchandise that meet TJX requirements and are socially compliant.
Supervise the trips of staff with foreign and resident Buyers and participate in vendor site visits as required. Negotiate the best price for merchandise in conjunction with TJX buyers.
