Position OverviewOur North Carolina environmental consulting team is looking to add a dynamic and self-motivated leader to perform and manage urban forestry and inventory projects in the Southeast market (NC, SC, TN, GA, FL).
Job DutiesThe Urban Forestry Manager will work collaboratively with our area/regional managers, business developers, and other urban forestry staff to provide our government, private, and not-for-profit clients with the services and solutions needed to meet their goals and objectives efficiently and effectively. A key focus of this position is to perform an active role in the development and management of new projects. This includes preparation of proposals, networking, identifying new client relationships and project opportunities, attending conferences/workshops, and public speaking.
The position also requires the ability to effectively communicate with clients and manage projects throughout the project delivery process and completion of project deliverables. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
• Identify and measure local tree species, understand their typical growth rates, and recognize indicators of common diseases and pest infestations.
• Prescribe appropriate tree work needed to mitigate risk.
• Collect tree and site data (using GPS instrumentation) and maintain/analyze data sets.
• Meet with clients and be able to effectively communicate project status and findings (both orally and in writing).
• Manage field crews.
• Prepare and produce technical reports (including assisting with the production of UF Master Plans).
• Develop project budgets and perform regular evaluations of project performance relative to budget and project goals.
• Represent the company and the client at professional meetings.
• Support DRG regional offices with urban forestry services.
The successful candidate will have the ability to market and sell urban forestry (UF) services and possess the ability to help build and lead a UF team.
QualificationsEducation and Qualifications:
An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty consistently and satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Previous experience successfully working in the UF industry will be required.
• Project management experience is preferred.
• Minimum of a four-year degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Environmental Science, Plant Biology or related discipline or equivalent experience in similar position is required.
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) are highly desirable.
• Current Driver’s License and Driving Record in good standing is required.
• Proficient working knowledge of computers and software (including Word, Excel, and GIS) is required.
Additional InformationThis posting is for a full-time position that will require some overnight travel depending upon the specific projects being worked on.
