Description: Job Summary:
Support legal defense of medical malpractice matters handled by outside defense counsel with a primary focus on evaluating cases and civil discovery. Provide representation to physicians on behalf of SCPMG in Medical Board of California investigations as well as other state professional licensing board investigations. Furnish legal guidance on a wide range of risk management matters arising from clinical practice.Essential Responsibilities:
Works with outside defense counsel and other legal colleagues to support defense of medical malpractice matters with a primary focus on discovery.Collaborates with colleagues to provide legal support to SCPMG physicians and Kaiser Permanente allied health practitioners in licensing board investigations.Provides legal advice and counsel to SCPMG physicians, executives, managers, administrators and clinical staff concerning risk management matters and a wide range of health care legal issues.Reviews and advises on new and proposed statutes and regulations with significant impact on SCPMG; participating in and collaborating with regulatory and legislative groups on behalf of SCPMG.Conducts legal research and preparing legal documents including regulatory and legislative summaries, along with recommending courses of action to ensure compliance.Advises on proposed communications that present legal implications for SCPMG.Contributes to educational programs for SCPMG physicians and other employees on legal issues pertaining to SCPMG and Kaiser Permanente. Basic Qualifications: Experience
Minimum five (5) years of experience as an attorney in a law firm or company or in government practicing litigation. Education
JD degree. License, Certification, Registration State Bar License (California) Additional Requirements:
Expert knowledge of California law in medical malpractice, regulatory, litigation, and/or contract areas.Excellent organizational skills, including experience with document management for e-discovery.Strong communication (written and verbal), presentation, analytical and problem-solving skills.Empathetic, patient and clear communicator.Strong commitment and proven track record of being committed to excellent client service.Values working in a collaborative environment and excellent at working with others toward shared goals.Ability to work closely with senior leadership as well as front-line clinicians to further the interests of SCPMG and KP.Dedication to KPs mission and strong commitment to a high level of professional service.Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment. Preferred Qualifications:
Seven (7) years of experience as an attorney in a law firm or company or in government in one or more legal specialties.Previous work in a health care delivery system or health plan setting.
