Overview For Southern Illinois University - Carbondale Radiation Therapy students in their final year of the program. The Southern Illinois University - Carbondale Radiation Therapy Education Stipend provides selected students a $15,000 education stipend to be used to assist with program costs. Upon graduation, and becoming registry eligible, education stipend recipients will be required to work a full time 3 year commitment as a Radiation Therapist at OSF St. Mary Medical Center. POSITION SUMMARY: The Radiation Therapist will assist with the daily patient flow of the Radiation Oncology clinical location, evaluate/develop new process for patient care, and assisting with other activities to improve Radiation Oncology operations. According to established procedures, assists physicians by treating patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. In doing so, prepares treatment room, explains procedures to patients, positions patients and administers treatments. Monitors patients during therapy sessions in order to ensure patients' comfort and to observe changes in patients' condition. Simulates patient treatment according to the treatment plan and delivers prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. Designs and constructs custom treatment devices for individual patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED, Must be enrolled in the final year of Southern Illinois University - Carbondale's Radiation Therapy program.
