Test and perform and on-console activities involving satellite operations during launch and early orbit support or long-term operations. Plan, set up and configure ground communication support. Develop validate and execute pass plan. Monitor and review telemetry. Advises leads and/or management of failures and degradation. Advise leads or management of predefined recovery procedures.
This position is for a Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) Ground System Engineer (GSE) as a member of the Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) team at the Mission Control Station (MCS), Buckley Space Force Base. The GSE provides real time, operational support to Space Force crews and contractor test teams for the operation and maintenance of system software and equipment.
Conducts mission/program specific real time spacecraft/satellite flight operations during readiness, execution and evaluation phases. Provides technical direction for on orbit mission support, plans for critical ground malfunctions and recommends alternate operating techniques to continue maximum mission support. Provides failure analysis of the performance of the ground telemetry data. Utilizes system software to accomplish all spacecraft control tasks and recommends improvements.
Utilizes strong analytical and troubleshooting approach/skills as required. Performs software maintenance support for Linux, AIX, PC compatible computers, and associated switching, network, and communications circuits and equipment. Provides feedback to Software Depot on software problems. Provides limited SYBASE/PostgreSQL system administration support for multiple system databases. Provides limited UNIX system administration support. Participates in software version testing and evaluation and provides feedback to the development and test community. Assists Configuration Management in software upgrades and changes.
Documents all software problems and follows up with accurate resolution. Ensures proper operation of the SBIRS software and hardware and ensures the timely resolution to problems and/or deficiencies. Maintain Access Control and works closely with System Administrators to ensure proper system operation and that problems are resolved with minimal downtime. Provides maintenance and support for on-going systems, including monitoring of system performance and data backups. Identifies source of software problems and determines appropriate solutions.
Job requires interfacing with Space Force and contractor personnel concerning hardware and software installations and developing briefings regarding system status and anomaly resolution on a regular basis. The candidate will be required to have the Security + certification within 90 days of joining the team.
Occasional travel to Schriever SFB. This is a 24x7 operations position, requiring continuous rotating shift work
