Spanish Onsite Interpreter - Contractor (Grand Junction, CO)

POSITION SUMMARY:

An Independent Contractor Interpreter is responsible for facilitating interpretation sessions for CyraCom clients in a professional, focused manner and utilizing the necessary equipment to provide accurate and complete interpretation.

Interpreters must possess and maintain a high level of skill, proficiency, and professionalism in interpreting. Due to the sensitive nature of much of the information processed during an interpretation session, a high degree of integrity and confidentiality must be maintained at all times.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):

Provides meaning-for-meaning interpreting.Follows interpreter protocols and procedures as required by CyraCom clients.Follows all CyraCom policies and procedures related to information confidentiality and interpreter ethics.Continuously improves vocabulary and specialized subject matter knowledge, as required for various clients, such as medical, legal, social services, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Fluency in English and the target language.Skilled at communicating, both orally and in writing in English and target language.Basic understanding of linguistics and different cultures.Skilled in adjusting to rapidly changing circumstances.Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.Strong attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to work independently and skilled at exercising initiative within the parameter of policies and procedures as required by CyraCom’s client standards.Ability to use standard office equipment such as telephones, computers, copiers and fax machines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for experienced candidates that have a mixture of required and preferred qualifications.

Required:

Interpretation experience (Examples of interpretation experience: medical, court, or government interpretation. For languages of lesser diffusion, interpreting within their communities, family, congregation, or during missionary work.)

OR

Professional interpreter certification or training.

Preferred:

A two- to four-year degree in interpretation.Higher education taught in English or other working language.Experience in relevant areas other than interpretation (e.g. healthcare).

As an Independent Contractor Interpreter, you will not be employee of CyraCom. Rather you will function as a vendor, providing language interpretation services on an IRS Form 1099 basis.
