Position Overview:
Plans, assigns, reviews, coordinates, organizes and supervises the processes of SPD, CSR, and if applicable, OR supply support to ensure operational efficiency to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and to achieve Capital Health (CH) mission to provide quality patient care. Acts as resource for all departments that provide and perform sterilization within their departments. Maintains department operational supplies within establish annual budget. Maintains and provides control of inventory items housed within the same area. Maintains the inventory and rental for certain specialty items and patient care equipment. Provides for timely and accurate process of requested reports, system updates and inputted information related to the MMIS and the patient billing system.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation:High School diploma or equivalency.
Experience:Three years of central sterile or sterile processing experience. CRCST or certified through national sterile processing program recognized by New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.

Knowledge and Skills:Possesses excellent organizational, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and ability to respond quickly in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of inventory and purchasing functions helpful. Ability to work under stressful conditions. strong background of surgical instrumentation knowledge, patient care equipment, and supply control knowledge.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSSupervises the assigned staff who have the overall responsibility of cleaning, decontaminating and sterilizing surgical instruments, non-surgical instrumentation, patient care equipment and products used throughout CH, in accordance with the departmental policies and procedures, guidelines established by JCAHO, state, and federal regulations and AAMI standards.Supervises the overall process of maintaining the operating room case cart system including stocking, issuing, and picking of supplies, assembling, and delivering the prepared cart with the required instrumentation to the central holding area as defined.Surveys, samples, and exercises discretion and judgment when evaluating the work process of employees and systems to ensure quality of practice. Initiates in-services for new products, new procedures, current techniques and products. Keeps staff informed of changes to current practices within the industry.Identifies, measures, plans and takes action to resolve workflow problems and enhance processes through performance improvement.Consults with, advises and assists all CH staff and departments with supply, equipment and sterilization information and guidelines. Monitors those departments that performed their own sterilization and decontamination.Uses par levels to replenish supplies and equipment, needed within the department to perform the daily operations. Uses par levels to maintain control of inventory items located in department. Utilizes established programs within the MMIS to create re-order notices for inventory items. Works closely with staff and the materials management information supervisor to coordinate, perform, and validate the physical inventories performed throughout the year.Participates with the director of supply chain when required in the development of the departmental operational budget, monitoring the operational budget, or the development of special project budgets. Works with staff to ensure that expense allocation is completed before month end.Places and oversees order placement for specialty items needed for the care and treatment of patients locate on nursing units and nursing floors. Oversees department and patient care equipment to ensure that it is maintained and periodically inspected by qualified service technicians to ensure safety and proper use.Monitors and tracks input of patient charges for supplies and equipment rentals which directly affect SPD and CSR charge items. Documents, addresses, and resolves incorrect charges posted to department account by other areas in a timely manner when required and seeks assistance from IT department and Patient Accounts department.Provides educational opportunities in various work locations as needed while adhering to course curriculum.Ensures that staff maintains certification by recognized national or state agency. May participate in discussions and studies to identify educational needs.Integrates information regarding evidence-based practice and Capital Health regulatory standards in educational activities. Identifies learning needs that are consistent with strategic initiatives.Uses effective communication to promote a positive environment. Uses a variety of instructional methods and teaching strategies.
