Special Education Supervisor

Overview

Position Purpose:
This position is responsible for supporting teachers in identifying, developing, and implementing curriculum, assessments, and instructional strategies designed to improve the learning of students with disabilities. This position provides leadership in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and
effective learning environments. This position contributes to the increase of student learning by fostering instructional excellence throughout the building. They will engage in the delivery of professional development, including observing teachers, coaching and modeling instructional
and assessment strategies, and providing feedback that ensures effective instruction and student learning. This position is responsible for the development and maintenance of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

Reporting Relationship:
● This position reports to the Education Director.
● This position has a matrix report to the Day School Director.
● The following positions report directly to this position: Special Education Teachers, Physical Education Teacher, and Art Therapist.

Essential Functions:
● Mentors all new and provisional teachers including conducting regular scheduled meeting to review progress, assist and oversee curriculum development, complete observations,
oversee Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
● Reports progress and keeps in communication with the education director, day school director and human resources regarding new and provisional teacher development. Based on the evaluations, opportunities for professional growth will be identified and provided.
● Identifies resources internal and external instructional support resources and shares accordingly with teachers.
● Reviews and becomes familiar with all education history material on each incoming student, including current academic goals, safety plans and is flexible to meet changing student needs
● Reads communication logs, daily reports, records, memos, ect. to remain updated on treatment and overall organizational information
● Creates an environment of trust and respect that promotes teacher engagement in a student-centered coaching model, builds a collaborative learning environment, and fosters a culture of continuous professional growth within the school
● Ensures that proactive classroom behavior management approaches are consistent with the goals and needs of the classroom and align with MyPath therapeutic models.
● Supports the development and implementation of individualized Behavior Intervention Plans.
● Engages teachers in learning new instructional strategies through coaching, modeling, professional development and collaborative meetings
● Provides relevant and timely feedback and goal setting
● Lead and provide (as assigned) individualized education through co-planning and/or co-teaching and engage students in active learning. Ensures that classroom environment and activities are conducive to students’ development of independence, competence and sense of self-worth. Develops and implements new and supplemental programming
● Assists teachers and support staff in using research-based instructional and learning strategies and content specific, differentiated instruction including assisting teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing lessons. Determines educational needs of students facilitates and analyzes academic data to determine curriculum needs
● Assists teachers in assessing student’s functional levels, determining instructional levels and identifying educational needs; assist with facilitating appropriate educational and vocational assessment.
● Conducts observations and provides appropriate coaching, modeling, and feedback on the implementation of instruction that meet school specific expectations
● Serve as Substitute Teacher when needed.
● Supports Special Education Teachers by attending Parent/Teacher Conferences and Mini Conferences as needed.
● Applies knowledge of federal and state special education laws, regulations, and precedents in the monitoring of IEPs for all students; assures each student has an updated IEP uploaded to Student Information System.
● Coordinates with teachers for and related service providers for case management.
● Ensures case management representation at the IEP meeting
● Functions within legal, licensing, School, and professional standards in maintaining a therapeutic and educational environment for students.
● Performs HR management and payroll functions for direct reports including interviewing and selection; orientation, training and performance monitoring and evaluations, coaching, counseling and corrective action and resolution of employee concerns, processing PTO requests and bi-weekly payroll. Acts as a resource on these matters for supervisors, partnering with HR on matters related to performance, accountability compensation and benefits etc.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Bachelor’s Degree (required); Master’s Degree preferred
● Special Education Licensure from the WI- DP (required)
● 3 years Teaching Experience (required)
