The Special Education Teacher will provide special education, pre-vocational and daily living training to dually diagnosed adolescents receiving services in Laradon’s School.
No day is ever alike but you can generally look forward to the following . . .
+ Provide an optimum classroom environment and learning experience.
+ Participate in transdisciplinary program assessments.
+ Knowledge of behavior support plans, crisis intervention techniques, and proactive/preventative techniques including physical management and positive reinforcement.
+ Participate with family and/or guardian and team in the development of IEP.
+ Participate in the case management process as needed.
+ Maintain files and appropriate paperwork for designated caseload.
+ Facilitate and monitor activities in keeping with IEP goals for designated caseload.
+ Coordinate schedule of classroom EBSPs and Lead Paraprofessionals.
+ Develop/Implement appropriate curriculum and corresponding lesson plans for students with significant cognitive and behavioral needs.
+ Facilitate weekly classroom meetings.
+ Attend staff development meetings.
+ Ability to work with diverse student population and staff.
+ Supervise the work and classroom instruction of EBSPs and Lead Paraprofessionals including daily planning, education of students’ needs and progress.
+ Assist in the development of the IEP with a team.
+ Maintain files and appropriate paperwork including IEPs, data tracking, employee performance reviews, etc.
+ Coordinate the schedule of and supervise classroom assistants.
+ Meet the individualized needs of each student.
+ Drive participants as necessary for program needs.
+ Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
+ As Laradon is a small employer and employees work in a collaborative, team environment, employee must be physically present in the office to perform his/her job functions.
+ Other duties as assigned.
What you need to know . . .
+ Start Date: ASAP
+ Compensation: Salary of $60k - $80k; actual compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon work experience, education and/or skill level.
+ Safety Care: All school employees are required to provide physical behavior support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire); may be subject to extensive aggressive and non-compliant behavior from special needs students.
+ 100% In Classroom Learning: As Laradon is a small employer and employees work in a collaborative and team environment, our school employees must be physically present in the office to perform different job functions. Additionally, as a service provider, our instructional methods under our services model require the work to be performed on campus.
+ Pre-Employment: Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and CBI/FBI Federal background check.
+ Calendar: The Laradon School year is Aug – May and Extended School Year “ESY” June – Aug. There are 176 student contact days.

What we’re looking for from you . . .
+ Brains – Current Colorado Teaching Certification with Special education Generalist and Elementary Education endorsement or ability to enter an Alternative Licensure program or apply for a Special Education Temporary Authorization (SETA).
+ Skillset - One year experience working with children with developmental disabilities and/or emotional/behavioral disorders preferred. Two years’ teacher experience preferred. Knowledge of Applied Behavioral Analysis.
+ Super star communicator - Excellent communication skills and flexibility.
+ Mindset – Must possess desire to mentor and teach Laradon team members, subordinates and peers
+ Safe on wheels – Valid driving license, good driving record, and reliable personal transportation
+ Super strength - Physical requirements include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force; physical condition to enable walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; stamina to be on feet and active for full workdays.
