We are seeking a Special Education Teacher to instruct students in our Transition Program ages 17-22, that are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with learning differences and mental health/behavioral challenges. 

 

Pay:

$53053 - $60480.42 annually for Special Education Certified (SPED) Teachers$3000 sign on bonus (1/2 paid in your first paycheck and the other 1/2 after 90 days of hire)

For over 50 years -- The Glenholme School, part of Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, has provided a comprehensive residential program and services for children with learning differences and special needs. Located in picturesque Washington, CT the Teacher will be part of a cohesive, passionate and dynamic team. The selected candidate will foster Devereux’s mission and values of quality care as well as providing top-notch and individualized therapeutic care for our students.

 

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Provide comprehensive specialized instruction to students in the Transition program ages 17-22Instruction to be provided across all environments including the classroom, community, building and job sitesOrganizes and provides developmentally appropriate special education programs for assigned studentsThe teacher will supervise the non-certified staff and students assigned to the special education transition programAssists administration in the supervision and evaluation of non-certified staffSupport and assist students who experience difficulties with academics, social/emotional, behavioral, adaptive, daily living skills, and job skills. Provide instruction in functional academics, SEL, daily living skills, and job skillsCollaborate, coordinate, and facilitate IEP meetings and transition plans for students with team membersDevelop and facilitate positive behavior support plans for students as neededImplement and oversee PBIS frameworkParticipates as an integral member of the IEP and educational support teamCollaborates with related service providersAssists the student to reach obtainable Postsecondary goals across a wide spectrumInterprets and promotes the program and its purposes to the school and communityAssists in obtaining appropriate educational records, data and other information necessary to the development of the educational planParticipates in parent and district conferencesPatricipates in required staff development activitiesAssesses individual student progress and identifies appropriate program plans and modificationsUtilizes staff, agency, and volunteer assistance in the implementation of programUses a wide range of teaching methods, materials, techniques, and equipment applicable to supporting various types of disabilitiesSchedules activities to maintain a positive learning environment and to provide access to the least restrictive environmentMaintains current knowledge in their professional area including pertinent Federal Law and State Special Education regulationsAssists in and cooperates with necessary admission and enrollment activities and proceduresCollaborate with state and community agencies such as BRS, Ability Beyond, etc.

Qualifications Special education degree and experience preferred.Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required (Master's preferred).Connecticut Teaching certificate or eligibility to obtain a teaching certificate.3 years of experience within the field of education preferred.
