Specialist, Emergency Management Planning

The Office of Emergency Management with the Office of Administration Finance for the University has an exciting opportunity for a Specialist, Emergency Management Planning.

Primary Duties:

Expand knowledge by researching specific emergency management themes, such as preventing and preparing for the consequences of acts of terrorism, management technology, business continuity, training, exercises, and new trends. Incorporate these themes in new programs and communications.
Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and training utilizing ideas from planning committees, exercise planning teams, or after action from events.
Assist in the development of incorporating and implementing various emergency management themes and/or initiatives for the University.
Assist in the research and preparation of a wide range of briefings, articles, publications, reports, briefing materials, and background materials to communicate important policies and procedures. Identifies recipients and distributes documents to critical emergency management stakeholders and partners, which will include emergency management stakeholder, UMB executive leadership, and community partners.
Assist with coordination of daily activities of emergency management projects, including monitoring relationships of outside agencies or subcontractors.
Schedules and prepares materials for management training, exercise development, and readiness activities designed to develop knowledge of the overall readiness of the university.
Serve in the on-call rotation to perform crisis and emergency incident management during normal duty and non-duty hours, in accordance with the UMB Emergency Operations Plan.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's degree in emergency management, homeland security, public safety, public administration, public relations, communications, or related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in program management, emergency management or community service.

Supervisory Experience: N/A.

Certification/Licensure: IS-100. HE, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800, Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program, FEMA National Emergency Basic Academy, Associate or Certified Emergency Manager certification within 3 years of hire. Preferred licensure or certification: IS-300, IS-400, IS-230.d, IS-0360, L-363.

Other: Clery Act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA) member and will comply with Clery Act requirements.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

Hiring Range: $62,000 - $68,000, commensurate with education and experience.
