SPECIALIST, ENROLLMENT & ELIGIBILITY

Position Summary: Assists patients who are seeking treatment in our facility while navigating the patient through the financial process from admission to discharge. Contributes to all functions of the financial office including functioning as a resource to create and execute financial agreements with patients and payers according to PVHMC policy. Provides patients, patients’ family, and community residents with vital information and linkages to affordable care and appropriate health benefits — including enrollment assistance for insurance programs, such as Covered California, Medi-Cal. Provides information about programs and services available to the community that foster community health and wellness for the residents of Los Angeles County. Performs outbound calls to patients and complete follow up in obtaining insurance and or screening the patient for MediCal. Meets daily benchmarks on assigned accounts. Assists patients with HPE eligibility, discussing payment arrangement options including financial assistance information, providing price estimates. Process payments from patients at the Cashier window and providing change to departments as needed. Responsible for following all Cash Handling Policies and Procedures, maintains responsibility for the safe handling of cash, check and credit card payments. Periodically rotates desk assignments within the unit and may be assigned to other department task as necessary, based on the operational needs of the organization. Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload. Skill in researching problems and determining appropriate action within established guidelines. May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications: [Required] High School or equivalent. Must complete the Covered California Specialist program within 60 days of employment. Minimum of three years' previous cash handling. Knowledge of Medical terminology. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone with professional quality; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure. Collaborate and accept direction; problem solve. Must have knowledge of MS Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills.


[Preferred Qualifications]: Three years of hospital-based/healthcare insurance/clinic experience specializing in Managed Care, Medi-Cal, Medicare, Covered California and California Children's Services with emphasis on Federal, State, and County eligibility regulations and requirements.

 

Salary range: $23.33 - $32.83. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
