ABOUT Hermosa

Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles southeast of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

As the Specialist, Government Affairs you will be part of the External Affairs team building and maintaining positive relationships with government officials, community stakeholders, and other key influencers. Moreover, this role will provide critical support in executing stakeholder engagement outreach that supports project objectives.  This role is based in our Tucson, Arizona office.

 

Other key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Policy Tracking & Analysis

Monitor and analyze local and state policies, proposals, and regulations affecting Hermosa. Stay updated on legislative changes in Arizona and Santa Cruz County, identifying risks and opportunities.

Relationship Building

Maintain positive relationships with elected officials and government agencies. Manage Hermosa Leadership Team's external engagements and represent South32 at key events. Organize stakeholder events, site tours, and educational meetings about the Hermosa project.

Team Collaboration

Work closely with Hermosa teams across project design, permitting, environment, and finance. Coordinate efforts with External Affairs and share relevant updates with project leaders.

Administrative Support

Keep accurate records of meetings and follow-ups. Assist with preparing presentations and communication materials. Manage vendors and ensure compliance with company policies. Support community engagement activities, including job fairs and school events.

    

ABOUT YOU 

Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or a related field. 1-3 years of experience, preferably in government, policy advocacy, or public engagement. Familiarity with Arizona and Santa Cruz County government policies and politics. Knowledge of policy trends in energy, environment, trade, and natural resources. Spanish fluency (written and spoken) preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and detail-oriented skills. Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Collaborative and independent work capabilities. Willingness to learn and engage across teams.
