BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for creating engaging video content highlighting the University of Rhode Island’s (URI) brand message and values, including URI’s vibrant student life, academic achievements, groundbreaking research, and community partnerships. Working closely with the New Media Supervisor, marketing, media relations, and social media teams, produce, shoot, edit, and post content tailored to the specific platform for target audiences. May require night or weekend work or quick turnaround in response to events or emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Film video on location, on and off all URI Campuses. Utilize camera equipment. Manage on-location assignments, including communicating with internal and external partners.
Responsible for setting up and operating all equipment, including camera, microphone, and lighting for shoots on and off campus.
Develop and edit videos for various platforms, including social media, websites, publications, and marketing materials.
Edit footage after recording and add computer graphics, closed captioning, music selections, and special effects when requested.
Interview and make subjects comfortable in front of the camera.
Plan video shoots with the Supervisor of New Media and team members, scout, select, and reserve shoot locations.
Respond to emergencies and promptly provide video to URI officials and news media.
Coordinate with outside vendors on audio and video feeds for events on and off campus, such as news conferences involving URI and Commencement Exercises. Provide files to media on time when requested.
Work with vendors listed on the State of R.I. Master Price Agreement and provide video and access to files when required.
Create and manage a video archive system that Communication and Marketing colleagues can access for use by internal and external partners and clients. Update video archive system regularly.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other duties as assigned by managers in the Communications and Marketing department.
May oversee and assist with student employees who are working with the Communications and Marketing Department
Respond quickly and troubleshoot technical difficulties when they arise.
The New Media supervisor and the Communications and Marketing Vice President must approve all work.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Film and sound editing; Familiarity and ability to purchase and know rights and permissions surrounding outside music and video usage; DSLR Camera and Sony equipment (video and still); Adobe Premiere Software and Final Cut Pro Software; Adobe Media Live Encoder, Avid, YouTube, Vimeo, Livestream. Social media. Web platforms.
Required Qualifications REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Minimum of two years of professional videographer work experience (shooting video and production).
3. Demonstrated multimedia and digital experience across all platforms (i.e., shooting and formatting for social media, websites, mobile content, Meta, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.).
4. Demonstrated experience using DSLR Camera (video and still).
5. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and conduct professional interviews.
6. Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a deadline-driven environment.
7. Demonstrated ability to shoot, produce, and edit video pieces to meet deadlines.
8. Demonstrated ability to work with clients on storyboarding and production prior to shooting.
9. Demonstrated experience with Adobe Premiere Software and Final Cut Pro Software.
10. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
11. Demonstrated proficiency with written communication skills.
12. Demonstrated ability to close caption media.
13. Demonstrated organizational skills.
14. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
Preferred Qualifications PREFERRED:
1. Minimum of three years professional video production, documentary film work, or related experience.
2. Demonstrated ability to close caption all videos in accordance with federal guidelines before they can be posted.
3. Demonstrated supervisory experience.
4. Demonstrated ability to use Livestream (and/or other streaming services) to stream live events and videos.
5. Demonstrated ability to use green screen and lighting in studio areas.
6. Demonstrated experience with Adobe Media Live Encoder and Avid (or similar editing toolset).
7. Demonstrated experience with YouTube and Vimeo.
8. Demonstrated experience with VI blaster and CloudApp.
9. Demonstrated ability to create and edit content and pivot when necessary.
