THE BENEFITS SPECIALIST - 1 WILL . . .
Under direct supervision, administrators select benefit programs and provide various forms of assistance directly to employees in understanding and utilizing benefit programs. Responds to employee questions regarding a variety of benefits.Works with the Benefits team to coordinate the annual benefit election process, processing invoices from insurance carriers and enrollment maintenance for active and retired employees.Maintains vendor management.Creates and maintains process management in areas assigned. Maintains benefit-related data in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS).Provides input in the development of benefits communications such as bulletin board postings, open enrollment guides, etc.Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.REQUIREMENTS FOR BENEFITS SPECIALIST - 1
High school diploma required; Two-year college degree preferred. Entry level position, one to three years benefits administration experience preferred. Entry level position performing routine assignments. Develops competence in own area by performing structured and/or routine work. Uses existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems; applies limited judgement and discretion. Depends on others for instruction, guidance, and direction. Applies knowledge; has basic knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures in a function. May be aware of costs related to own work. Responds to standard requests from internal and/or external customers. Works within guidelines and direction provided by others to achieve objectives and meet deadlines. Use existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems; apply limited judgement and discretion. Ability to operate a computer workstation. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks. Verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of policies, procedures, and rules which govern selected benefits programs.
