Key Responsibilities:

The Consumer Public Relations Specialist is a foundational member of the Consumer PR team, managing and responding to inbound media inquiries, overseeing monitoring/measurement of media coverage, building and maintaining media lists and helping draft briefing documents, key messages and other communications materials for executive leadership. The Specialist will also help provide PR support for many of United’s consumer-facing functions including customer experience, digital technology, network planning and onboard product. This role will proactively pitch news to reporters and will seek and seize opportunities to help secure earned media coverage of United in lifestyle outlets that don’t typically cover the news of an airline. This role is considered Chicago-based hybrid and will require 2-3 days per week in office.

Manage all inbound media inquiries to the Consumer PR team, working with the team and business partners on an appropriate responseOversee media monitoring/measurement; optimally use our monitoring software to build recap reports for company announcements; report out on critical metrics and alert team members to news coverageBuild and maintain media listsHelp draft briefing documents and staff media interviews/eventsDraft/send media pitches and follow up with reporters

QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications): Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations or similar field2+ years in a Public Relations or Communications roleStrong writing/editing skillsAbility to identify news trends and understand what makes a compelling story for reportersExperience with enterprise level media monitoring platformsExperience drafting media pitches/press releases and successfully placing earned media stories Comfortable working in a highly matrixed, fast-paced corporate environmentAbility to juggle multiple projects at once and effectively prioritizeAbility to take initiative and own their area of workAbility to travel up to 20%Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorshipSuccessful completion of interview required to meet job qualificationReliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

 


The base pay range for this role is $64,885.00 to $88,440.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
