Objective of the role 

 

The incumbent will be responsible for supporting materials management to implement and manage the Inventory management and logistics strategy globally, resulting in effective service levels and the efficient management of working capital.

Relevant technical or commercial qualification.

 

 

 

General Knowledge & Experience

 

Minimum 5-7 years’ business experience in supply chain inventory and logistics. Experience in diverse workforce and cultures, cyclical growth within a dynamic mining environment. Intimate understanding of the supply chain processes (e.g., source to contract, source to pay, all workflows, logistics, inventory, warehousing and all governance steps). Proven inventory management experience and knowledge of the mining landscape Demonstrated analytics ability within the SAP System landscape, with specific emphasis on structuring data for improvement initiatives and optimisation. Strong statistical capability coupled with the technical knowledge to develop and create factual story lines. Excellent analytical skills. Strong interpersonal skills and extremely resourceful. Cross-Functional Awareness and adaptability. Exceptional organizational and time management skills. Detail-oriented and dependable problem-solving skills. Critical thinking. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Project and change management skills. Have effective interpersonal skills to successfully sell and implement strategies to senior management and have the ability to operationally manage subordinates.

 

 

Role Accountabilities

 

Statistically analyse inventory data sets to determine factual story lines and trends, group in manageable buckets and use these buckets for improvements initiatives and programs. Assist with the development of a baseline inventory per site, based on analytics, BOM requirements and the site need requirements. Analyse and propose improvements for the current coding and classification parameters within SAP to optimize levels of automation within the SAP replenishment process. Assists in the development standards and guidelines for inventory management including stocking strategies, including a set of key performance indicators that will ensure service level optimisation resulting in the least excess and redundant inventory.  Interact with site supply chain and engineering functions and understand the end-user requirements that translates into an efficient and effective provision of inventory holding. Develop and entrench effective warehousing strategies and operational best practises to ensure proficient receipt, storage, non-conformance handling, audit, issue and staging of stock. Identification and segregation of excess and redundant inventory for the purposes allowing the disposal process to commence. Develop and entrench effective inventory monitoring and counting practices that will protect inventory from pilferage and loss. Develop and entrench workflow systems that will ensure FIFO (First in First Out) practises are maintained including shelf life management.   Implement inventory practises that ensure the safe keeping of inventory from weather elements, the risk of hazards such as fire, chemical spills, combustion and deterioration due to cold storage requirements.  Entrench effective warehousing design and binning strategies (both inside and yard areas) that will ensure safe operation, clear demarcation and identification, easy access, and the least storage space utilisation. This includes SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) analysis and understanding the cost of carrying each inventory item to ensure it meets the financial objectives of the business.       Designs and implements a condition-based maintenance system for key spares. Care and maintenance procedure (greasing and turning shafts). Interaction with engineering department on items to be maintained during storage. Acceptable storage practices as per developed policy and procedure. Regular storage checks and verification. Design and implementation of the Application for New Inventory Introductions process. Develops the standard coding protocol requirements. Guide the compilation of manageable lists for inventory reclassification for the effective review and re-classification. Identify stock and non-stock material which is redundant or more than requirements and maintain registers. Its key to understand what key equipment is installed at each mine site. Redeployment of redundant, underutilised and excess material between mine sites. Analyse and guide the best programmes to optimise the value within the sale and disposal processes.
