The purpose of the position is to support production equipment by building/modifying/repairing mechanical components on manufacturing and facility support equipment.
The individual will be expected to perform required tasks independently, working from drawings, sketches, and other instructions to execute machining operations such as mill, turn, face, bore, groove, contour, dovetail, drill, tap, etc. to precise mechanical tolerances
Education and Experience
Have Machinist Journeyman status, or four years applicable experience or military equivalent, or minimum 2-year Machine Tool Technology Degree Physical Assessment required Practical Assessment may be required
Responsibilities:
Set up and operate a variety of machine and hand tools. Construct and repair complex molds and mold parts for a precision injection molding process. Assemble and perform tests on completed molds, modifying as necessary. Work from complex prints or general instructions. Lay out work such as mold jigs and fixtures. Determine dimension, arrangement, venting requirements with varying levels of information about the product. Use algebra, trigonometry, or geometry to determine angles, hole locations etc. Set up a variety of equipment including CNC operation and select materials, methods and sequence of operations. Select appropriate tools, speeds, feeds, coolants, etc. based on a knowledge of working properties of materials and hot manifold injection molding process. Selects and uses various hand tools and hand polishing equipment to produce details impractical by machine. Grinds all cutting tools. Operates polishing machine to achieve 1/2 micron finish. Carries out required welding, soldering, and heat treating. Troubleshoots molds in use to determine cause of mold related defects and makes appropriate modifications to flow patterns, pin or vent locations, etc. considering flow rates, "flash" dimensions, shrinkage rates, etc. Make repairs to precision measuring instruments. Once trained will train others in this group as needed.

The starting pay for this position is $33.97 hourly rate. Compensation and benefits available for this position are dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
