SPECIALIST/SENIOR SPECIALIST, OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY, Research Compliance

We are currently seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Senior Specialist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment across BU’s Medical Campus including Boston Medical Center, with a focus on Joint Commission required safety rounds, construction and general industry workplace safety practices. This position is primarily based on the Medical Campus while remaining flexible in assignments across all areas and departments served by EHS. The salary and position level are commensurate with the candidate’s educational background, training and experience.

Job Responsibilities

·         Conduct health and safety inspections in medical campus facilities including the Goldman School of Dental Medicine and Boston Medical Center, and construction projects.

·         Enter inspection and incident information using an EHS information management system to analyze data for tracking and trending for risk mitigation.

·         Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure identified safety and compliance issues are resolved.

·         Implement, evaluate, and continually improve required worker health and safety programs and assess compliance. Report trends and opportunities for improvement to the Director.

·         Develop and conduct health and safety training programs for in-person sessions and for on-line modules.

·         Review construction project scope and develop construction safety plans. Advise project managers on compliance with applicable local, state and federal standards and       codes, and institutional policy.

·         Conduct construction safety training to project managers, administrators, facilities staff, and construction workers.

·         Coordinate and lead regulatory site inspections of facilities and constriction project sites with local and state inspectors.

·         Implement fire safety plans including scheduling and leading fire drills. Review drill performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
