Position Description
The Specialized Skills Supervisor - Theater is a supervisory position with the Parks Department and will serve as the supervisor of the Metro Parks Theater Programs, the Looby Theater, and the Black Box Theater. This position is responsible for supervising all full-time, part-time, seasonal, and guest instructors assigned to this section.
Metro Parks offers a variety of facilities and programs throughout Davidson County including after-school programs for children, cultural arts classes, nature programs, sports leagues, ice hockey, fitness classes, art galleries, programs and services for seniors, as well as for those with disabilities. Currently, the department oversees nearly 16,000 acres of open space, including 178 parks and 100 miles of greenway. Metro Parks’ mission is to sustainably and equitably provide everyone in Nashville with an inviting network of parks and greenways that offer health, wellness, and quality of life through recreation, conservation, and community.
Typical Duties
+ Organizes, plans, coordinates, establishes, supervises and directs cultural arts programming for all ages that offers recreation and training in drama and theater.
+ Plans, schedules, supervises, and instructs staff, individuals and classes in theatrical programs.
+ Supervises the use of Looby Theater and CPAS Black Box Theater for in-house programs and use by other groups.
+ Coordinates programs and services with outside groups, agencies and schools.
+ Ensures that programs have proper accommodations and safety precautions.
+ Serves on boards and commissions for related field of specialization.
+ Takes registrations and processes payments using Metro financial systems including Recreational Dynamics, iProcurement and R-12.
+ Conducts research in the field of specialization.
+ Requisitions, inventories and maintains equipment and supplies.
+ Organizes and implements performances for the public.
+ Participates in activities and organizations to advance expertise in the area of specialization.
+ Oversees inspection of equipment and facilities for defects, reports findings to the supervisor, and ensures necessary repairs are made.
+ Evaluates programs and develops long range plans.
+ Observes classes and programs conducted by staff members to evaluate total effectiveness of both the program and the instructor.
+ Seeks funding for programs through alternative funding sources.
+ Participates in the planning and coordination of workshops and in-service training programs for staff and trains new employees in the Cultural Arts Division.
+ Compiles accurate records and reports.
+ Evaluates personnel and maintains appropriate records.
+ Maintains positive public relations and coordinates marketing of programs to increase program attendance.
+ Prepares grant proposals and necessary follow-up reports.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Theater or related field and three (3) years experience teaching or working in theatrical field; including two (2) years experience organizing theater classes or programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically capable of participating in required recreational activities. Depending on area of specialization may be required to climb, lift, bend, stoop or hike.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Experience planning, developing, coordinating, producing, and teaching of theatrical classes
+ Experience in theatrical programs for youth and adults
+ Two (2) years Management and Supervisory experience leading a theater team and staff
