Specialty Claims Intern - Spring 2025

The Specialty Investigative Unit (SIU) Internship program includes a combination of activities aimed at giving the intern a full understanding of the Claims department and how it interacts with other functions within the organization. The program is a potential pathway to a career in insurance.

We are accepting resumes for Specialty Claims Internship candidates starting employment in April/May 2025.  

Within the Corporate Claims division, interns will work on meaningful assignments and gain exposure to a variety of claims functions, including claims handling, analysis, investigation, and negotiation. To gain a broader perspective of the business, interns will have the opportunity to meet with individuals who work in the other various functions within the group.

Responsibilities will include: 

Our intern program is responsible for developing the fundamental skills to support our claims teams. The intern will:

Learn to review and evaluate information for various claim types to determine data critical for further investigation

Work closely with experienced claims professionals to learn customer service skills and standards

Activities and rotational assignments may include:

Job shadowing

Reading assignments on various topics including, insurance products such as commercial automobile, general liability, property and workers compensation, as well as general topics such as, business ethics, legal system and human relations

Case studies involving actual claims files

Learn and perform functions related to the claims (technology and tools)

Research supporting information for the claims team via various systems

Assisting with tasks that support the claims process

The program includes a combination of activities, aimed at giving the intern a full understanding of the claim discipline.

Qualifications:

Ability to work up to 20 hours a week during the school year.

Working on bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 minimum GPA

Proven leadership skills through extracurricular activities, internships/co-ops, or work experience

Superior verbal/written communication and analytical skills
