+ GENERAL SUMMARY
+ The Specialty Pharmacist acts as a pharmacology consultant and patient advocate to the healthcare team while providing pharmacy services to meet the needs of patients/care providers, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members. Reports to Pharmacy Operations Manager – Outpatient.
+ ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Works with assigned clinic(s) to provide liaison services for patients requiring high-cost therapies, including but not limited to specialty medication education, managing patient access to those medications, and providing ongoing clinical support to patients with complex medical conditions requiring specialized treatment
+ Navigates prescription-related access and affordability barriers (such as prior authorizations and patient assistance programs).
+ Provides pharmaceutical care and expert consultation to healthcare professionals to ensure proper pharmacotherapeutics for the patients treated at CHKD.
+ Provides pharmacy services to meet the needs of patients/care providers, physicians, nurses, other healthcare team members, and accreditation bodies.
+ Follows departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and state and federal pharmacy regulations regarding the dispensing of outpatient and specialty medications.
+ Educates providers, clinic staff, and patients on the value of prescription fulfillment through the system’s ambulatory pharmacy.
+ Assists with ambulatory pharmacy staffing needs as necessary.
+ Performs all other duties as assigned.
+ LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
+ Required Licenses and/or Certifications
+ Registered Pharmacist (RPh) with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy required at time of hire or must be obtained within four months of hire.
+ Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications
+ None preferred.
+ MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
+ Required Education and Experience
+ Bachelor of Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college or school of pharmacy required at the time of hire.
+ At time of hire, a record of completion for all education, licenses, training and/or certifications is required.
+ Continuous certification and/or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, training, educational and application requirements is required during employment.

+ Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
+ Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment.
+ Possesses strong verbal and written skills as well as, the ability to build collegial relationships with diverse individuals.
+ Interpersonal skills to communicate and gain cooperation of hospital administration and staff, patients, their families, and guests regarding drug therapy and other important aspects of pharmaceutical care.
+ Solid analytical skills to ensure medication is ordered and prepared in accordance with professional standards and practices.
+ Possess critical thinking skills to determine when to consult and advise physicians and patients as to the use of medications and their possible side effects.
+ WORKING CONDITIONS
+ Pharmacy employees work in or near a clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Minimal or occasional exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common in a healthcare environment. Minimum adverse working conditions related to the proximity and services of the clinical healthcare services
