Position ResponsibilitiesAdheres to and complies with all regulatory standards globally to profession and specific to unitUnderstands all new physician orders must be implemented within two hours of initiation for routine and within 30 minutes or less for statUnderstands and is able to prepare patient for invasive and / or non invasive medical procedures ensuring universal protocol complianceUnderstands and is able to administer medication per physicians orders adhering to the hospital approved patient identifiers, following the 5 rights of patient medication administrationUtilizes chain of command to communicate changes in patient condition and initiate timely interventions to prevent negative patient outcomesMaintains current licensure and annual competencies as specific to assignment, keeping written evidence on file at all timesUnderstands the procedures to ensure continuity of patient profile/kardex and/or procedure preference cards or other unit specific tools, in a timely mannerAssures continuity of patient care assessment and reassessment as per policyEnsures and understands the safety aspect of clinical alarmsFollows the Nreportational Patient Safety goals as requiredFollows Patient Safety goals as established by the department; supports effective responses to adverse and sentinel events; provides an on-going proactive approach to reduce risk; integrates patient safety as a priority into new and existing processesIs available to participate as a member of either Team A or Team B of the Hurricane Activation Plan, as assignedReports incidents to supervisor and Risk Management department within required timeframe in accordance with medical center policyFollows the completion of incident reporting policyComplies with current Hospital security and safety policesPerforms initial vital signs and admission history to include introduction to patient and familyAssessment of chief complaint and notification of physician within 15 minutes of arrival to unitObtains and documents a complete nursing admission assessment, including physiological and psychological factors to develop an interdisciplinary plan of care within eight hours of admissionPerforms and documents an accurate systems assessment at the beginning of each shiftResponds to diagnostic data and initiates appropriate action or interventionAssesses patient education needs on admission and dailyAssesses psychosocial needs specific to patient's age, growth, and development
