Specialty Technician Coordinator
+ GENERAL SUMMARY + The Specialty Technician Coordinator functions under the direction and guidance of the Specialty Pharmacist(s) and Pharmacy Operations Manager – Outpatient. This position serves as the primary point of contact for specialty pharmacy access and affordability services. Reports to Pharmacy Operations Manager – Outpatient. + ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES + Works with assigned clinic(s) to provide liaison services for patients requiring high-cost therapies. + Facilitates benefits verifications and prior authorization services for specialty pharmacy patients. + Navigates prescription-related access and affordability barriers (such as prior authorizations and patient assistance programs). + Educates providers, clinic staff, and patients on the value of prescription fulfillment through the system’s ambulatory pharmacy. + Collaborates with the ambulatory pharmacy to facilitate and coordinate delivery of prescriptions to patients. + Assists with ambulatory pharmacy staffing needs as necessary. + Performs all other duties as assigned. + LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS + Required Licenses and/or Certifications + Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy required at the time of hire. + Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification required at the time of hire. + Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications + None preferred. + MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS + Required Education and Experience + High school diploma or equivalent required at the time of hire. + Four or more years of pharmacy technician work experience required. + At time of hire, a record of completion for all education, licenses, training and/or certifications is required. + Continuous certification and/or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, training, educational and application requirements is required during employment. + Preferred Education and Experience + None preferred. + Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Basic Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications like Word, managing email, navigating the internet, basic file management, data entry, understanding operating systems, and the ability to operate pharmacy related software to maintain accurate records of prescriptions. + Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and empathetic team player who takes initiative. + Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. + Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment. + Possesses strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills as well as, the ability to deal effectively and courteously with a variety of departmental, hospital personnel, and patients and build collegial relationships with diverse individuals. + Demonstrates effective communication skills that are unbiased, and professional. + Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of specialty pharmacy accreditation standards preferred. (Utilization review accreditation commission – URAC / Accreditation Commission for Health Care - ACHC) + WORKING CONDITIONS + Pharmacy employees work in or near a clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Minimal or occasional exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common in a healthcare environment.
