UPMC Northwest is seeking a Casual Specimen Processor to join our team. This position offers flexibility with scheduling, working dayshift and afternoon shifts, Monday through Friday, with opportunities for weekend shifts. The ideal candidate will assist in processing specimens, ensuring accurate data entry, specimen handling, and compliance with safety protocols. This role requires availability for up to two holidays a year and every other weekend. In this role, there is the opportunity to –

Demonstrate a service-oriented approach by conveying courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in all work situations. Monitor pneumatic tube and courier deliveries to ensure timely and accurate processing of specimens. Investigate and resolve any specimen-related issues or errors, including requesting assistance when necessary and completing quality forms for unacceptable specimens. Separate specimens by centrifugation, label aliquot tubes, and store samples at the appropriate temperature following departmental policies. Enter specimen receive times into the computer system and manage requisition data accurately. Answer telephone inquiries regarding proper specimen collection, results, and normal range information. Verify patient specimens to ensure correct matching of specimens with requisitions and labels, correcting discrepancies as needed. Prepare, package, and send specimens to outside locations, while maintaining cleanliness and proper safety protocols in the work area.
