The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences is a vibrant department, serving over 350 students per year. The department offers a graduate program educating future speech-language pathologists, as well as an undergraduate degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences and a post baccalaureate program preparing students to enter graduate level work in a variety of fields, especially Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. The department includes 8 tenure-track research faculty, 8 clinical faculty, and adjunct instructors. With strong connections to the surrounding community, the department strives to provide a strong educational curriculum preparing students to enter careers and graduate level work in a variety of fields. Practicing professionals regularly teach a variety of courses to SPHR students to ensure that a strong and relevant clinical perspective is offered. Position Summary Portland State University’s Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences invites applications for local Adjunct Instructors with expertise in the following core areas:
• Audiology
• Speech/Language Development
• Speech/Language Disorders
• Speech and Hearing Science
Instructors must be qualified to teach courses in one or more courses taught in Speech & Hearing Sciences (please see PSU Bulletin for individual course descriptions at http://pdx.smartcatalogiq.com/en/2019-2020/Bulletin):

SPHR Graduate level courses – topics vary Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Speech & Hearing Sciences/Communication Disorders or Audiology, or related fields.
Related clinical work experience and/or teaching experience aligned with course content may be used in lieu of degree, at the Department’s discretion.
Certification through the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) is preferred.
This position is subject to ORS 681.250(2), which states that: “No person shall practice speech-language pathology or audiology or purport to be a speech-language pathologist or audiologist in this state unless a person is licensed in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.” Therefore, as a condition of employment, you are required to maintain an uninterrupted license for speech language pathology with the Oregon Board of Examiners. Preferred Qualifications Previous teaching experience preferred.
