What you'll do The Speech Language Pathologist works directly with individuals to evaluate, diagnose, and treat disorders of speech, voice, swallowing, language, and social and/or cognitive communication. The Speech Language Pathologist may provide evaluation and treatment of patients in acute care, nursing home, short-term rehabilitation and/or outpatient settings. They are required to work as part of a multidisciplinary care team. They may assist in quality improvement and new programming initiative development. This position reports to the Rehab Supervisor, Rehab Manager and Director of Rehabilitation Services. Maintains licensure by obtaining required CEUs as determined by NYS Practice Act Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements and Joint Commission (TJC) standards. Performs comprehensive assessment as evidenced by clinical documentation. Identifies those functional problems that require speech therapy intervention based on an accurate assessment of the patients status. Must be capable of understanding and carrying out prescribed therapy services as requested by physicians and/or midlevel providers. Develops a plan of care to promote optimum function and safety, as documented in the clinical record. Completes all required documentation following treatment and procedures and ensures that documentation reflects care provided and outcomes achieved. Demonstrates the ability to evaluate and treat the assigned number of patients per day, and determine the need for follow up visits to maximize functional outcomes. Maintains current knowledge and awareness of insurance regulations related to provision of therapy services. Acts fiscally responsible in use & request of supplies, and in submitting patient charges in a timely manner. Coordinates patient care with other clinical team members ensuring optimal patient care and resource availability. Maintains and enhances personal and professional knowledge, as well as promotes professional standards in speech language therapy Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. Additional duties as assigned. What we need from you Education: Masters degree in speech language pathology or equivalent from an accredited college or university, required. Eligibility for a certificate of clinical competency during a clinical fellowship year is also acceptable. Experience: Experience as a Speech/language Pathologist, preferred. New graduates for a clinical fellowship year, with a designated clinical mentor will be considered. License/ Certification: NYS license as a Speech/Language Pathologist or for new grads – NYS license as a Speech/Language Pathologist must be obtained within 12 months from date of hire, required. BLS - within 6 months from date of hire, required. Occasional: climbing, crouching, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, stooping. Frequent: typing/ clerical/ dexterity, grasping, hearing, seeing/ monitor/ computer use, standing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception), walking. Hazards: Occasional: bodily fluids/ bloodborne exposure. Working Conditions: Occasional: odors. Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. Pay Range Minimum: USD $38.24/Hr. Pay Range Maximum: USD $57.36/Hr.
